@trooa Glad they finished the tournament with a win! It's a pity they only televise a few games of the tournament and don't livestream the other games. I would have liked to watch some of our future Magpies play.

Found this photo on Facebook. Looks like Flanders, one of the guys lifting the lock? I feared he was injured after he didn't seem to play the second game and seeing an (unidentifiable) player on crutches on one of the photos on FB.

@stargazer Devan Flanders was in Hamilton with the Magpies as injury cover, which is why he missed the Under 19's match v Ta$man on Wednesday.

Slightly surprising half time score at McLean Park, with the Tuis leading 16 - 5 against North Harbour.

Harbour should normally be the stronger team, but the Tuis are dominating territory & possession, and dominate the scrum.

The Tuis second try scored by Te Maari MacGregor was a beauty.

Great result for the Tuis, beating Harbour 52 to 10. Very dominant performance.

Having watched them play last year, I noticed a significant improvement this year. Passes stick, the scrum worked well, better defence and attack. Krysten Cottrell is a class act; you can see why she was picked for the Black Ferns. Having Emma Jensen back in the team helps a lot, too.

Far from the finished product, but hopefully they can improve further and become a team that is fit for the Premiership. This result should help them reach a spot in the semis. It's probably too early for the step up, but considering they finished last the last two years (losing all their games), this season is going really well.

The Hawke's Bay Saracens have - predictably - retained the Hurricanes Development Shield. It was an absolute bloodbath and they defeated Manawatu Development 100 - 15.

This development competition is clearly not strong enough for the Saracens. Next week they'll play Wellington Dev and we'll see where they're at.

By the way, Wellington Dev is playing Ta$man B today, Canterbury B on 6 October and Auckland B on 13 October. It would be great if the Saracens could play these teams as well. Games against much better opposition would actually help in the development of our development players.

100 points, it will take about an hour to view them all.

                      .

That Saracens game will be interesting as it will give an indication of how good they really are, now that they are playing against a more competitive opponent.

Next week (from Monday, 1/10) is also the Hurricanes U16 tournament in Masterton.

                        .

Fa'alemiga Selesele not in this squad. Unless he's injured, he might be in the Magpies squad for Sunday. Devery has been named on the bench, so he won't travel to Christchurch. I'm a bit surprised. Unless they're going to use Jason Long again as (reserve) hooker, Kereru-Symes won't get a rest.

Sam Ulufonua also not in the Saracens squad, so he's also likely to play on Sunday. Danny Toala and Shae Tucker missing on this team list, too.

Oh thats not good news from Ashurst. I had a sort of whangai grand daughter playing for Wellington and am surprised I haven't been officially informed of that result yet, particularly after speaking to her about the game yesterday If an invite from them to Sunday lunch tomorrow to watch the test comes through I will not doubt have to face the music first hand!

                                    The Hawke's Bay Tui beat Ta$man 47 - 12 today. Great result.
They''re currently sitting 2nd on the Championship table, behind Wellington (which was relegated last season) and four points ahead of Otago and with a much better points differential. This is their best season that I can remember.

In 2012, they lost all their game and the union pulled the team for the 2013 season.
In 2014, they won only one game (against BOP, which lost all their games that year).
In 2015, they lost all their games and the union pulled the team for the 2016 season, instead of putting in an effort to improve women's and girls' rugby in the Bay. There was a lot of criticism at the time of the union's lack of effort to put adequate programmes in place like BOP did (BOP are now playing in the Premiership division).
In 2017, they lost all their games, but - with the increased investment of NZR in women's rugby - the union appointed the first women's rugby development officer (current Black Fern Krysten Cottrell) and both the union and the Hurricanes Youth Council started new programmes for girls.
This year, thanks to a lot of player movement in the Farah Palmer Cup and a few players coming in from other provinces (including former Tui players), they've won 4 of their 5 games. Next week, they'll play a difficult crossover match against Manawatu, but they are already sure of a semi-final spot. If they somehow manage to get one point out of that match, they'll play their semi at home.
