Walking dead Finale
Terminus folk are definitely cannibals. As they were herding the through the station via gunfire, they ran through a pile of human skeletons and bones from earlier meals. The ending gave me the shits. Based on their experience with other groups (The Governer, Darryl's new friends etc), why are they still so trusting? Why not leave Michonne, Carl and Darryl in the woods to watch as Rick walks in alone to see what happens. That way, if it is a cannibal trap, you have options. Instead, all of them are in the railcar, waiting for their turn on the grill.
-

Walking Dead -
Yeah Rick was suspicious, but they still were far too trusting.

The fact there were no people on look out or guarding the gates/fences indicates they probably had people hiding or even stationed further out and had signalled the approach of new people, so they sit and wait.

I guess they just wanted the 'sanctury' so bad, they believed it, and let thier guard down. Tyrese and Carol are still out there, Beth is all alone, or possibly already been to lunch...Andrea is out there too I guess, but she's probably the leader of this lot!
-
Andrea is dead. Remember she offed herself in the governors torture chamber after she was bitten so that she wouldn't turn in last season's finale.
-

I watched the final two episodes of How I Met Your Mother last night.

For 3 and a half years (the first 3 and a half seasons) I would have had this show in my top 10 of all time. It was funny (which you want from your sitcoms) but it was also well written with ongoing storylines like the good dramas.

In season 4 they lost their way when they started to focus on Barney who was the hilarious character on the edge. Since then the show became a ratings hit in the US and has run 9 seasons, which have mostly been utter garbage, but I've kept watching because those initial series were so good. They had a brief quality renaissance whenever the Mother was featured this year, but the episodes were too few and infrequent.

So, what did I make of the final episodes ... well, they were pretty crap. Mega spoiler to follow.
Firstly, the mother is dead! WTF, that is so stupid, especially after they spent a season integrating her into the story. But no, they wanted Ted to be with Robin and so that's what they did. The problem being that everyone stopped caring about Ted and Robin as a couple ages ago. Furthermore, they just spent a season getting Barney and Robin to their wedding and then they end that in about 10 minutes.

Also, the episode's were really ragged, they were jumping all over the place. FFS, they had 4 seasons where they could have done all this instead they just retreaded storylines about Ted dating and did silly will they, wont they with Barney and Robin.

Ah well, it's over, no more having to watch as an obligation, but man I really wish they'd pulled off a better ending.
-

Some of the things the terminus residents said look dodgy a second thing around

the signs, invite people in… itâ€s how we surviveâ€
i gave up on it a few series ago. it used to be piss funny, but well over-stayed its welcome. So i read the spoilers after the final episode had aired in the US and laughed to myself, bullet dodged there. What a shit ending.
-

What is annoying is that if they'd played out the last 40 minutes over two seasons it could have been good - and maybe even piss funny.

Unfortunately I'd invested too long in the show so there was no way I could dodge the bullet.
-

Walking dead
Just watched the terminus scene again, Rustycruiser is right there are freshly butchered skeletons in the chase scene and as I said there is another shed full of people calling for help that they pass. The series is imho really well written there are things that really mess with you the more you think about them, Carol losing one daughter then basically adopting to more and having to kill one after it kills the other, a bunch of scenes with Herschel saying " we can be farmers" etc and then they end up in the hands of people farmers. I think one of the group will be eaten . probably the fur trader from the governors group or as an outside chance Carl. When Rick turns the tables on them he'll go medieval like he did in the book where they hacked them to pieces and incinerated their bodies. Also Carol and Tyrese, my guess is they will be too smart to go in together. Maybe Carol goes in with Judith and Tyrese sneaks in when he doesn't get her signal.

Does anyone else find it weird that the leader of the group Daryl was in had no problem with rape, child rape and murder but couldn't swear "dearie me, a hole, walking piece of fecal matter etc"?
Looking forward to the spinoff,http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/ustv/s135/the-walking-dead/news/a561564/walking-dead-spinoff-will-tell-new-kinds-of-stories.html#~oAfqsG8CTjmNBL

Also the shorts on youtube and vimeo of cold storage and the bicycle girl back story and well worth checking out.
-

All this discussion of he Walking Dead has got me interested. I might have to start watching it as my one episode a day series now that I've just finished Deadwood.

How does it rate as a series in comparison to The Wire, The Sopranos, BSG, The Shield, FNL, the above mentioned Deadwood, Mad Men etc? Is it at the same level?
-

I'd put it on the same level but thats only my opinion, the idea that everyone is already infected with the virus and will turn into a walker when they die is the real difference between it and the usual zombie films. Humankind will never know peace even if they wipe out all the walkers there will always be outbreaks .

Also it's less about the zombies and more about who's left behind , if you liked Stephen Kings the Stand you'll enjoy this- even if you do survive there's no hospitals to help you if you break a leg, no police to protect you and no hope of things going back to normal for a very long time.

Series one is great series two drags a bit as its budget was trimmed back -it was originally supposed to be a blackhawk down style story of a group of soldiers trapped in Atlanta after the outbreak, I'm hoping this is what the spin off series is about.

One last thing, I see you're stirring over at pr on the election thread . I'd love to see the response to this if you post it http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/politics/5516068/Socialist-streak-just-means-we-have-a-heart-says-Key
-
In hindsight, it was blindingly obvious;
I saw the bones and stuff, Rick even looked at them.

When Rick and them were running and being shot at, you could see they were shooting all around them but not at them, guiding them. 3 doors in a room and only one unlocked....

I didnt notice the other people calling for help...but again, something that makes more sense looking back.
Nepia, I'd put Walking Dead up there as a show I eagerly await each week, similar to GOT & BB, although more so the past 2 series have pushed it up there too.

It's about Zombies...whats not to likeSeriously though, like Jegga says it is the struggle to try and live in this world, and more than just survive.

Plenty of things youu can point out as flaws (who mows all the lawns) but some seriously dark stuff in there, none more so than the past few episodes.

You will also be pleased to know I have the 1st 3 series of the Wire to give another go when I get some time.

Did you enjoy Deadwood?
-

TR: I thought Deadwood was bloody good, although I wanted Bullock to be a bit more like Raylan - he's basically Raylan written without a sense of humour. Ian MacShane was bloody good too. Most of the characters were great and the actors were all bloody good. Although I could have done without seeing Ron Swanson's penis. The non ending ending was fine for me to, it could have been a series end.

One thing annoyed me:
I don't know why they didn't just kill Hearst when they had numerous chances before his men arrived. Now, I guess there were forces behind him they could have worried about (but they could have stressed that more), and I know that in real life he wasn't killed - I didn't know that at the time - but to me they either alter history, or they write in some bodyguards for him so that it didn't seem so stupid that Al didn't kill him.
Jegga: I haven't seen the stand but I like most zombie films - although I expect it wont be as funny as Zombieland. That article is classic, although I like how the Maxim Institute guy was quick to point out socialism in NZ is actually 'compassion'. It might look like I'm overtly supporting Eug if I post it though.

Ok, looks like Walking Dead is my next show to watch.
-

It has been many years since I watched Deadwood, but thoroughly enjoyed it, McShane was brilliant, recall soemthing about Hearst, but not enough to recall my feelings on it, but agree, the ending eas one, but not....some brilliant characters portayed in it too, particularly Swerengen and Calamity Jane.

A good few from Deadwood had decent roles in SOA as well.
-

Like TR said, theres a few little things in the walking dead like the lawns, car batteries still holding charge , petrol not going off etc you have to ignore but it has got better as its gone on. You might find the second series hard going though.
