@taniwharugby I'm impressed they included the macron (haven't clicked on the article though).

Man some people are easily triggered.

I do struggle with why a Belgian Brewery would name a beer Maori Tears, particularly in this age of greater appreciation of the dangers of cultural appropriation.

As for Sofitel - well I guess there is gender stereotyping but it seems pretty tame to generate the level of fuss and outrage.

I mean to be accurate - who wears their dressing gowns to bed? He should be scratching his balls, farting and secretly reading porn inside the paper.

His eyes are saying "you know you want to" and hers I wish he'd go have a dump so I can breathe

@mariner4life given Sofitel is positioned as Accor's luxury exclusive brand for the sophisticated traveller I doubt they see their demographic including Fern posters

Look at Mr Money Bags! 😉

I've never stayed at a Sofitel, wouldn't mind checking out the new one in Darling Harbour in Sydney someday (not sure if it will happen considering I actually live within walking distance of it).

I basically stay exclusively in Air BnB (or Meriton apartments if work is paying) these days. I much prefer the extra room of an Air BnB than a hotel. Although, I did look to book a room at the Auckland Airport Novotel in Feb - I used to stay there quite frequently when it was first built - but the room was going to cost $400+ for one night. WTF. I'll have a look again closer to the time but that's crazy money.

She’s probably picking out a gift she expects in return for filthy hotel sex.

Btw I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t understand the purpose of dressing gowns. You’re either dressed or you’re not , pick one ffs *

*Obviously a dressing gown in the form of lingerie is exempt from this .

I like wearing a dressing gown, it's like being draped in a big towel. I just refuse to do up the front which invariably has me banned from the pool.

    OK I admit it.

    I absolutely love Stuff comments.

Overall they are significantly wittier, better researched and more reflective of reality than the absolute dross they comment on. Bravo NZ public, you give me hope.

@rembrandt they stopped comments pretty early on in this one . It’s a bit rich for Curran to bleat when she pounced on David Bendon Popes seat when he was apparently having a nervous breakdown after being dragged through the media spotlight for his fuckwitted behaviour when he was a teacher.

    Some gold in here

Cyber bullying costs nz almost half a billion dollars?

Oh Shamubeel Eaquab came up with those unsubstantiated figures? Not surprising then.

Wow Jegga, you’re so cynical. As a matter of fact it’s well known that each single hurty feeling costs $18.50, the rest is just maths.

Actually I agree, these types of article are just nonsense and a decent journo would ask for his working and pull it to pieces. Asking people how much they would pay to avoid it is charlatan economics. If people aren’t actually paying you can’t trust what they say it’s worth.

What’s the economic cost of disappointment at not wining Lotto?

And as for the loss of life component, is there anything more subjective and emotive than the dollar value of a human life?

I don’t believe that everyone in the country pays $100 each every year to avoid something which has a fairly vague definition especially if, as we are led to believe, the young are predominantly the victims. Well sorry but they are effectively economically unproductive.

Edit: I see this is just one of several stories in the Herald today on this subject. Given it’s a theme, dollars to donuts they commissioned the economist to come up with this bullshit, so no wonder they aren’t very critical of it.
