Movie review thread...

Better living through chemistry - Olivia Wilde, Michelle Monaghan, Ray Liotta, Sam Rockwell Even a few scenes with a half clothed Olivia Wilde couldn't save this. A few chuckles but just a bit slow IMO, could have been quite good, 6/10

Oldboy - Samuel L. Jackson, Josh Brolin.

Brolin is abducted and held captive for 20 years, once finally out he sets about seeking revenge. Some brutal Tarantino-esque scenes as he goes about gaining revenge.

As you find out the reasons behind his kidnap, you get set up for the reveal of the final twist.

I liked it (twist aside - which was sorta predictable in that I had thought about it, but dismissed it) -

Last Action Hero - an Arnie film which came out at the same time as Jurassic Park in 1993. Jurassic Park won. Still a fun movie to watch if you're killing time on a Wednesday night. 7/10

Transformers: The Movie (1986) - Remember seeing this in the movie theater when I was 4 or 5 years old (my sister had to take me). It is 2005 and a gigantic transformer planet (voiced by Orsen Welles) is eating other transformer planets. A lot of original Autobots and Decepticons met their Tomy maker in the sky and a new leader has to emerge in the Autobots' darkest hour. Smashes the gay stuff put together by Michael Bay and Shia Lebeouf. 9/10.

Also included great bad 80s theme tune.

looks like Rocky 1 with robots! I gotta see this, have no idea why I missed it first time around.

Can't stand the Michael Bay/ Le boofhead stuff.
-

I almost added this short 15-min. doc to the "Awesome Things" thread, but on second thought figured it was a better category here.

After the Dark - sounded very good, and was for about the first half, and then kinda dragged out, with a pretty lame final 5 mins or so.

A class of Philosophy students in Jakarta are given a task by thier professor that 10 of the 20 of them have been given the opportunity to live in a bunker following an atomic blast, and each is given a profession and it is up to them to decide who lives and who doesnt.
-

Just saw Divergent, was pretty good if you like the hunger games you'll enjoy it I think. One thing that irritated me was there are four male characters that look fairly similar and the main star is one to watch out for in the future, I think she's pretty cool.

-

if the 4 females are similar, and hot, judging by your previous posts, I'd have not thought you would see that as an issue! ;)

-

Unfortunately it was the four male characters so pretty much wasted on me.

Also the trailer to this piece of shit screened beforehand, I'd rather remove my eyelids with a rusty butter knife than sit through but judge for yourself.

ah my bad...I didnt see the 'male' bit and then saw the main character was a female....

Ride Along - Ice Cube, Kevin Hart - was ok, a few laughs.
-
Get Him To The Greek

The Vegas hotel scene is fucking brilliant -

Side effects - Jude Law, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Channing Tatum

decent enough thriller about a chick who tries to kill herself and is prescribed drugs to treat her, with interesting side effects. Mostly predictable, but still a decent watch.
-

The Grand Budapest Hotel: Wes Anderson at his wacky best. Visually stunning murder whodunit caper movie set in the mythical East European country of Zubrowka just before WW2.

Who's in it? Who isn't in it. The usual Anderson suspects from the royal tennenbaums, Rushmore, life aquatic etc, plus Ralph Fiennes in the lead.

Great date night movie.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

3 blokey type movies - lots of swearing violence and drug taking. Didn't know what to expect in any of them but they kept my attention

Dom Hemingway - great performance from Jude Law, one of those ones where you forget he's Jude Law

Cheap Thrills - an age old premise which rolls along nicely

Filth - a watered down trainspotting type movie
-
