@nepia there was a revisionist history about our memories of events being very flawed, the one where the tv reporter "lied" about being in a helicopter fight in Afghanistan that has since struck a chord.

It explains a lot of my recollections of AB games and players from childhood. e.g. I was sure for years that Paul Cooke was an AB, as well as another fine HB export! 😀

Yeah, that one was really interesting. Yeah Cooke was a great HB export, but I never really thought he was AB level - like that other export Timu.

I found the science shitfight ones really interesting as well.

The science shitfight ones were good, the one about Elvis Costello was interesting too.

If you can't tolerate the guys voice on Revolutions try Martyrmade instead . The ones on Israel and My Lai are really good imho, he does work with Daniel Bolleli on some podcasts and Bolleli voice might irritate you.

I'm listening to the Israel/Palestine one at the moment, it's really good, but, my tolerance for waffle (both written and audio) is low at the moment so I wish he'd be more concise at times.

The one about My Lai is way more concise . I had no idea the degree to which the poms screwed thrmselves in Palestine until I heard that podcast.

The latest Dollop podcast is one of their funniest yet. This time they look at the decidedly kooky cult Synanon, whose leader was noted for his impulsive edicts. The one requiring all members to ride Harkey Davidson motorcycles had me cracking up.

@jegga I've been listening to The Caliphate lately, I still can't get into Revolutions because of the guys voice. The Caliphate is about ISIS, and focuses on interviews with ex ISIS members - I'm about midway through and really enjoying it.

    Mar 10, 2018  /  Podcasts

    Caliphate (Published 2020)

    Caliphate (Published 2020)

An audio series following Rukmini Callimachi as she reports on the Islamic State and the fall of Mosul. This series includes disturbing language and scenes of graphic violence.

I also felt the last Martyrmade on Israel-Palestine was a bit rushed and he probably downplayed too much the threat to Israel militarily once the 1948 war kicked off.

Interesting stuff about Begin - I had no idea of his history other then Israeli politics and Irgun.

I also feel his discussion of the media was heavily US focused - contrary to his thoughts Palestine having been doing pretty well in the 'media war' for a good couple of decades now. I guess when all you have is the US media companies then it will still seem completely slanted.

Will have a break before listening to more of his.

Every scandal begins with a lie. But the truth will come out. And then comes the fallout and the outrage.

@Tim @Nepia have you listened to this one ?

    May 4, 2022

    Slow Burn Season 9

    Slow Burn Season 9

A nationwide moral panic, a California legislator who rode the anti-gay wave, and the LGBTQ+ people who stepped up and came out to try and stop him.

Working my way through the Nixon one, Clinton is next .

Just listened to Gone Fishing (About Deane Fuller-Sandys and his dodgily convicted murderer Gail Maney), which was pretty good, although seemed to end abruptly without an "ending", maybe I wasn't listening properly. From the peeps that did Black Hands.

Sworn is good, from the guys that did Up and Vanished, although led by the solicitor Philip Holloway.

Unravel season 2 is out now too, if anyone enjoyed S1.

Radiolab pulled this because of the predictable response from the npc crowd , you can find other great clips on line done by other people but I like this one.

@nepia on that genre, a really good Aussie one is Unravel. The Untold is also really good as is Up and Vanished.

After my break from these types of podcasts I've started listening to this. 8 episodes in it's going pretty good, and he's improving the standard of the podcast as he goes. I hate the Law and Order voiceover style that his mate does though.

Sorry what is npc? ... isn't it Mitre 10 Cup these days (/dad joke).

Have seen it pop up a couple of times in recent days. Assuming it's some reference to the sjw crowd ... ?

Hah yeah that's awful. Gets pretty damn juicy pretty soon if you steer clear of researching what's actually happened since.

Yeah, I'm avoiding reading up on anything, I did that with the shit Aussie one (the league player one) which I can't remember the name for - maybe it wouldn't have been so shit if I hadn't done any reading?

Will have to wait until I've had a break, I get tired of the true crime genre and like to break it up with history/film/stuff etc podcasts. But I've got it on my list from when you mentioned it last time - better not be shit like the other Oz one though. 😉
