@yeetyaah Cheika almost always names 24 players with one to be excluded, cos he's a knob and has no selectorial ability at all and the yes men that surround him give him no help.

Eddie Jones named 23 as well.

Does the naming of this team give us any indication of who will be on the early flight to Heathrow?

Maybe only Ofa and Pat T will be in the mix but Naholo is now likely to start vs Japan.

      I've been thinking this.

The unpicked: Ofa, Coles, Patty T, Fafita, Papali'i, TTT, Goodhue, Naholo, Barrett (J).

Of which JG already off and that leaves two extras.

      BBBR to start against Japan.

The last bed is quite intriguing. Cases can be made for Harris, Moody, Karl T, Smith (A), Mo'unga, ALB and even Benda (although less likely).

The starting XV against Japan is going to look decidedly barbarian?!

Am I missing something or is Fafita this year's Messum? And will I upset @SammyC by suggesting people try and spell names correctly? Or is spelling just a social construct and the speller can use whatever letters they identify with?

Edit: I think @pakman is trolling me ...

Apologies for slip. I blame fat fingers and spell checker. FAOD I mean V. T. L. Fifita.

The 19: Nehe Milner-Skudder, David Havili, George Bridge, Matt Proctor, Ngani Laumape, Brett Cameron, Bryn Hall, Mitchell Drummond, Luke Whitelock, Gareth Evans, Dillon Hunt, Jackson Hemopo, Luke Romano, Angus Ta’avao, Tyrel Lomax, Reuben O’Neill, Tim Perry, Liam Coltman, Asafo Aumua.

        Japan test 23?

Barrett (J), Naholo, NMS, Proctor, Laumape, Mo'unga, TTT, Whitelock (L), Fifita, Papali, Patty T, BBBR, Ofa, Coles, Perry.

Bench: Hall, Cameron, Bridge, Hunt, Romero, Ta'avao, Coltman, O'Neill.

Swap RM for DMac at 10 IMO. They will want to settle RM in the UK, DMac has more squad experience to draw on.
Don't think BBBR will stay in Japan either. Romero to start with Hemopo on bench

I have sympathy with DMac view. But don't you think BBBR will be a bit undercooked for Poms with only 30 minutes under his belt?

If that is the case seems silly to take him. I'm sure the medical team are doing their best, but glandular fever is a pretty enigmatic.

Unless he is fit and firing to go there is no point limiting his minutes (eg off the bench for two tests and start against Italy), then having him look flat and then have the selection panel throw the performances out because he wasn't 100%.

Five weeks off in the early summer without jumping timezones seems like a better long term bet. If pushed too hard GF can turn into chronic fatigue which would likely ruin his career.

BBBR is a rugby god and all will bow to his awesomeness no matter if he has eaten a few Japs on the way to Twickers or not.

Can I pre-vote him in the MOTM poll now please.

I thought he was Spanish? In any case he debuted over two years ago I reckon.

@gt12 and on review Romero is a well established TSF All Black. Been round for years. Hence my question whether Fafita is in the same category.

Up until this year, I would have agreed but when BBBR came back from that long lay-off and played for the chiefs for 80 mins and was MOM and absolutely dominated at full tilt, I have confidence he can do it with a 30 min return 'warm-up'

Is there a reason why you're not going to give @Crucial a hard time for selecting a debutante Italian to stay to meet Japan?

I thought he was Spanish? In any case he debuted over two years ago I reckon.

Argentinian? Debuted just prior to a Rugby championship match against them I think, but yes, as you and @booboo say a well established All Black who is strikingly similar to another player - Romano or something.

This Fafita guy must be new as I would remember a name that sounds like Mexican takeaways. Another bloke, Reid, went on to be an All Black captain.

                                Possibly from El Salvador.

Up until this year, I would have agreed but when BBBR came back from that long lay-off and played for the chiefs for 80 mins and was MOM and absolutely dominated at full tilt, I have confidence he can do it with a 30 min return 'warm-up'

Same deal with Liam Squire. No way that he would ever have benefited from playing a warm up game in the M10 Cup semi last weekend after a month out injured.

Unlike Joe Moody - he desperately needed game time, because.....

...well, because Daniel Lienert-Brown was banned for head-butting and the Canterbury scrum was going to be in the shit!

Fucking Canterbury Mafia - that's dodgy as fuck!

Weather is looking pretty dodgy for tomorrow. Probably 15-18 degrees but thunderstorms are predicted - at this time of year that could mean things get very wet, very quickly.

Some may be interested to know that although Japan has a rainy season, more rainfall usually happens in October, but it’s less predictable and usually associated with Typhoons. Great for the WC, ah?

@stargazer said in NZ vs. Aust - Japanese yawn edition:

                                          the 24-man bench.

Going to be tough match for us.
