Great topic btw. Old movies that still stand up today.

Sneakers(92). That movie is still great. All the tech is dated but the movie still good.

The Goonies(85). Watched this with raz jnr the other day. Probably my 30th time and I still love it.

The Evil Dead(81). Still all kinds of awesome.

They Live(88). Best fist fight ever.

I guess the ones that had 'cutting edge' sfx (or any...) in thier day are the ones that struggle today.

Point Break, Princess Bride, Goonies, Indiana Jones films (bar the last one) back to the Future are all still awesome.

Have introduced TR Jnr to most of the good age appropriate ones.

Ok so last night after the Hurricanes threw away their wicket so to speak I watched 47 Ronin.

Worst movie I have seen for some time. Against my better judgement I watched this absolute shit of a movie. There are no redeeming features, no cool Keanu moments, no characters worth giving two shits about, no tits, no cool effects(they have tons of CGI but all looks dated) and surpisingly no cool martial arts or sword play. Im sure its the entire cast of The Last Samurai sans Cruise and Connelly. Except that movies despite Cruise didn't completely suck.

I like Keanu. He's Neo, Johnny Utah & Ted. Not to mention what ever his name was in Speed. He was a nonce in Dangerous Liasons , Much Ado About Nothing, Little Buddha and many other horrible movies but this was so, so bad.

Just avoid it really. Its not one of those sleeper hits that the critics got wrong. This isn't Dredd or Shanghai Knights no this is Ewe Bol with a budget.

The worst thing is....I asked my daughter to rent it for me through the xbox while I had a shower and when I got out my phone went off and I'd been sent an email receipt from Microsoft.....She bought the bloody movie!! $25!!

Funnily enough I will now most likely watch 47 Ronin to see if it matches your review and rating! I won't pay $25 for it though.

War Games (1983), Fright Night (1986), Labyrinth (1986), Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989), Ghostbusters (1984), Beetlejuice (1988), Transformers (1986), The Last Starfighter (1984)....

I don't mind if the special effects are outdated, in fact I like them better than today's over the top CGI effects....

Most of those were mentioned earlier as being in line for (probably shitty) remakes along with short circuit.

Saw Godzilla last night, excellent levels of carnage and numerous plot holes . Really enjoyed it , also the Olsen twins have a rather cute sister who's in it.

Who can guess this movie from the clues im about to give, a virtual beer to the winner...

I had the cough cough pleasure of watching this classic piece of cinema lastnight.

Clue 1. Title is a single word.

Clue 2. Our hero is wronged by the Romans, his family is slaughtered by them

Clue 3. He is sold into Slavery and becomes a fearless Gladiator.

Clue 4. He has no name, he is just given a name by his fellow Gladiators that matches his place of birth

Clue 5. H befriends a fellow Black Gladiator.

Clue 6. He impresses at his current location with his fighting skills so he is moved to another arena to fight.

Clue 7. He seeks revenge against a Roman of high authority, he wants to kill him.

Clue 8.He hardly talks, he lets his fighting talk for him.

Clue 9. Both him and his Roman enemy want the same woman.

Clue 10. He and his fellow Gladiators are forced to re-inact a famous Roman battle victory to entertain the audience in the arena.

Clue 11. He and his fellow Gladiators dont follow the script and slaughter the Roman soldiers in the mock battle they are supposed to lose.

Clue 12. He eventually gets his revenge.

Any idea yet ?

Didn't realise Jurassicpark was a single word, but therein is the proof of social media influence for you!

Now if you had said wine award winning Australasian actor with a Japanese wife it might have narrowed down enough for me!
