Godzilla - Really enjoyed it i think we can all now burn, destroy and bury the abomination that is the 1998 Mr Jessica Sarah Parker version.
Great to see ole 'Zilla battle a couple of other beasts, story line was pretty basic but you dont need much really.

8/10

The other version was partially saved by having Jean Reno in it , was that thing godzilla was fighting in the new version mothra? Loved death by pelican at the end. -

Mad Max I considered an Aussie classic.

And surely DeathRace 2000 is worth a higher score, Sly gets beaten up in the car park, there is a euthanasia joke and fantastic lines, plus it is running commentary sarcasm, a rarity in mainstream American films.

Frankenstein! Frankenstein the legend, Frankenstein the indestructible! Sole survivor of the titanic pile-up of '95, only two-time winner of the Transcontinental Road Race... Frankenstein! Ripped up, wiped out, battered, shattered, creamed and reamed... a dancer on the brink of death... Frankenstein, who lost a leg in '98, an arm in '99! With half a face and half a chest, and all the guts in the world, he's back!
-

The Double - Think this movie was trying really hard to be all dark, brooding and clever, all I took was wierd.

The Patrol - almost a documentary style film that follows a troop of British soldiers while on Patrol in Afghanistan. Slow, but I think that is the point of the film, not to mention the attempt to make a political statement about the war, at only 1 hour 20, wasnt too bad.
-

Finally got round to watching Captain Phillips and I thought it was bloody good. One of the best movies I've watched this year.

Also watched Pompeii due to Virgil's promoting of it in this thread, and by watching it meant I had it going while I was doing stuff. I found Emily Browning to be quite awful, however her handmaiden was farking hot (it's a time for hot handmaidens). Jack Bauer decided he'd out ham Daniel Day Lewis for a day and Jon Snow was Jon Snow-ish.
-

Pompeii is easily in my all time top 1000 movies now
Someone was definitely guilty of hitting Emily Browning with the ugly stick on set
For what she can be check out Sucker Punch ( not a great movie but pisses over poopeii) -

Citizen Kane - greatest movie of all time they say. Bullshit. No tits. Spent two hours looking for Simpsons references (yes, Simpsons references). 6/10
-

:good:
-

Dust of War - post apocalyptic type movie that seems more like a set-up for a TV series (or maybe a movie franchise?) No names in it, minimal dialogue...

Non-stop - Liam Neeson is a US Air Marshall on a plane when someone starts messaging him over the Secure network demanding money otherwise he will kill someone on board. Little bit of a twist in that as Neeson's hand is forced, he kills #1 right on time. Is an ok film, plenty of action, Neeson seems to be revelling in his new quiet tough guy roles since Taken.
-

I'm catching up with films from a few months ago. I just watched Ender'Game.

I must have been inattentive at the start, or they just didn't explain, but I missed the premise of the movie. Why do they have to use kids to command their army? How did they realise this was the best policy.

Ben Kingsley - WTF!!! After watching Wolf of Wall Street and seeing three different actors do completely different takes on the NZ accent I didn't think it could be mangled anymore. Kingsley was giving a different take on each sentence. Also, if you're going to make the character Maori at least teach him how to pronounce Maori properly. Or at least hire Cliff Curtis or Tem ... they'd be a lot cheaper than Kingsley too.

I was thinking about reading the books so read up about them and found out the author is great big homophobe, so might give them a miss.

TR: I thought Non-Stop was quite good as a popcorn movie.
-

He does a good villain though.

Yeah, was quite unpleasant in Sexy Beast.

Saw Edge of tomorrow , really enjoyed it . People killing aliens with mechanical bio armor suits , a bit of the plot borrowed from groundhog day and Emily Blunt looking toned and shooting stuff up. Cruise gets a lot of hate but I thought he was great again in this role, I liked Oblivion too last year.

How To Train Your Dragon 2

Not as cutesy and funny as the first, in fact it's pretty fucking serious and my kids both howled a couple of times. But it's real good. And it looks amazing (i didn't bother with 3D).
-
Yeah we saw HTTYD2 yesterday and both kids had tears at one point. But darker than the first one but I thought it looked spectacular.

ONLY thing that bothered me was those big arse dragons should have shaken the ground a LOT more when they were fighting

I really enjoyed that too, the pirate that survived stole the show for me.
-

300; Rise of an Empire - If you like that style of film, I guess you will like this. Plenty of slow-mo blood splatter, despite the cold weather, loads of fake (surely) abs on show....some boobies too, but no where near as many or frequent as the abs...

Was trying to work out who the main actor was and he was Scott from Strike Back, also has Cersei Lannister playing a women of power again, but not as evil.
-

I watched this last night as well. I assume that the 300 movies would be huge in the gay communities - mostly just guys wearing undies and the odd cape.

I assumed the movie was filmed in Oz due to all the Oz actors in it but IMDB said Bulgaria.

It was watchable, but I enjoyed The Lego Movie far more (which I watched the night before - not that they're similar films).

I think he follows the Michael Caine style of movie making ... any crap films he refers to them as his 'new pool', 'beach house' etc etc. Looking at his IMDB page he has actually appeared in a lot more quality stuff than I assumed ... just mixed in with the turds.
-

I looked after I made that comment too and it was a bit harsh, there are some huge turds there and i prefer Caine over him as an actor.I love Caines line after he made jaws 4 when someone asked him if he'd seen it "no but I've seen the house it paid for". He does a lot less rubbish nowadays oo, check out his Parkinson interviews sometime, he really is a legend.
