Bohemian rhapsody, really enjoyed it . The timeline is probably a bit fucked up to squeeze everything in but not in an Oliver Stone “ this bears no resemblance to reality” way . The actor playing Mercury is superb , the guy he co starred in the pacific with is in it too and was quite irritating with his mugging at the camera. Nice to see Mike Myers get a Wayne’s World reference in there too.

5 terrible terrible haircuts out 5

Really really stoked that fluffybunny Borat didn’t play Mercury

Everyone I know that has seen this has really enjoyed it, flaws and all and they haven't necessarily been big Queen fans.
The reviews seem to be way too precious.

I'll definitely watch this but I'm undecided if I see it on the big screen or wait for the home release.

Bohemian Rhapsody – I’ve never been huge fan of Queen, however when you watch this movie you realise how good a band they were and how awesome their music is.

I don’t read the critics but from the posts previous and talking to a mate it sounds like they haven’t been too kind to the film. But, critics never like by the numbers biopics, by the numbers other genres but not biopics.

I actually liked how the movie was divided up by songs (being written/produced) as a framing device – and the Live Aid scenes are great.

I didn’t have a problem with the Pacific guy like @jegga did and I thought all the cast did a decent job at portraying the other members (sometimes I forgot it wasn’t Brian May and only an actor).

Agree with @jegga's rating and like @Crucial everyone I know who has seen it has enjoyed it. 🖕 to the critics.

The main criticisms from the comments I've read are about obvious timeline errors and liberties taken around the conflict/relationships in the band. The Live Aid scenes are meant to be spectacular so I'm looking forward to seeing that on the big screen. I watched that live in 1985 and have seen it numerous times since then.

Definitely big screen, some of the shots of the concerts etc are really worth seeing on the big screen.

I've just watched gattaca, again, with the missus this time. Not as 'cool' and/or thought provoking as I remember. Still a very well acted film, but hard to really enjoy as the protagonist (Ethan Hawke) comes across as a tosser and is so unlikeable.

Still 4 useful genes out of 5

It's a movie not a documentary. I do wonder about critics going into a 2 hour movie and expecting it to be completely factual.

As @jegga says, big screen is the way to go.

@nepia The comments I read were from Queen fans not critics. I realise it isn't a doco but with both Brian and Roger involved you would have thought they would be leaning towards factual not fiction.

Ah right, I just assumed you were talking about the critics. As I said I was never a huge fan and just like with other biopics e.g. Straight Out Of Compton etc a movie like this just serves as a springboard for me to do my own research into this.

I watched it last year for the first time, I was expecting it to be more like Brave new world and was a bit let down in that regard. Agree with what you said though.

One of the main things they shifted the timeline of is probably to make the live aid concert even more dramatic , it might bug Queen tragics I guess. .
There's a kiwi connection there, Anthony McCarton was one of the script writers and Adam Lambert gets a cameo as a truck driver.

You know your kids, it's not just age - it's who they are adn what they can cope with. We have an 8 year old we know who can't handle Minions.

These guys are pretty good and provide some guidance

When I worked in Sydney I was working with some Irish guys and they used to love sending their countrymen fresh off the plane looking for some work gear to a place called The toolshed in Darlinghurst.

@nepia their reactions the next day were gold , I remember one of them ranting about a giant black rubber fist hanging from the ceiling.
