Wayne Barnes is a disaster for Ireland. I think he's refereed something like 14 Ireland games of which Ireland have lost about 10!

These sorts of stats make no sense at all. Doesn't take into account the opposition played or any other the many other factors that determine a results (injuries, weather, etc).

What happens if he's a "disaster" for both teams? Do we end up with a negative scoreline?

Smells like getting excuses in early.

His stats for NZ are I think the worst in the modern era, but blowed if I can find them

Didn't we have this discussion that Ireland's stars with Barnesy are similar to NZ's. Ask @Derm-McCrum. He'll confirm it 🙂

@crucial said in AB EOYT 2018:

              Wayne Barnes as Ref
              NZ P16 W 10 L5 - 69% wins
              IRL P15 W5 L10 - 33% wins

Since Barnes started reffing tests the ABs have a losing rate of 16%. Ireland have a losing rate of 33%.
So he has almost doubled our losing rate and has doubled yours.
              Pretty similar 😉

Wayne Barnes is a fine ref, he was shit in 07 but so we're the ABs for not having a plan B. And now have a plan B (and C, D, etc - see yesterday's change at around the thirty minutes mark), and Barnes is a good ref. After 'no offside' Poite, never seeing the offsides all game yesterday, I'll take Barnes any day. Ireland have a real bad record with him in charge too 😉

Agree. Barnes has improved a heck of a lot. Probably leads the bunch that is a fair way behind Owens.

O'Brien's replacement, Dan Leavy, was pretty much the best Irish player on the pitch against Argentina IMO.

                                https://www.the42.ie/henshaw-murray-ireland-injury-update-all-blacks-4335145-Nov2018/

IRELAND HAVE BEEN dealt a major injury blow ahead of Saturday’s clash against the All Blacks with the news Robbie Henshaw has been ruled out of the remainder of the November series.
Conor Murray, meanwhile, won’t link up with the national squad at Carton House this week, with the IRFU definitively ending talk of the scrum-half making a miraculous comeback from his neck injury against the world champions.

Murray and Henshaw have been ruled out of the games against New Zealand and USA.

                                Source: Dan Sheridan/INPHO
While it was always unlikely Murray would come back into the equation for this weekend’s showdown at the Aviva Stadium [KO 7pm, RTÉ 2/Channel 4], the loss of Henshaw is a significant blow.
The Leinster centre pulled up with a tight hamstring in the warmup ahead of Saturday’s win over Argentina, and despite Joe Schmidt allaying fears over his fitness in the post-match press conference, Henshaw will miss the games against New Zealand and USA.
Henshaw’s injury places even greater importance on the fitness of Garry Ringrose, who sat out Saturday’s Test against the Pumas with a hip knock sustained in Chicago but is due to return to full training tomorrow.
Will Addison, who was impressive on the occasion of his first start after being a late call-up for Henshaw, could also been in the frame to partner Bundee Aki in midfield again.

Murray’s confirmed absence, meanwhile, ends the speculation over whether he’ll play on Saturday or not, after Steve Hansen yesterday insisted he believed the Munster nine would start.
“Robbie Henshaw’s hamstring issue, which saw him replaced by Will Addision just prior to kick-off on Saturday, will rule him out of the remainder of the Guinness Series,” a brief IRFU injury update said.
“Ireland scrum-half Conor Murray is accelerating through his recovery but will not join the squad during the Guinness Series window.”
In addition, there are a number of players being managed at Carton House today but are expected to train fully on Tuesday and Thursday.
Henshaw and Murray join Sean O’Brien on the injured list, after the flanker suffered a broken arm at the weekend.
There was no update on the fitness of Kieran Marmion and Bundee Aki, who both rolled their ankle in the second half.

Murray was always going to be out - this story is being flogged to death at this point.

Henshaw out is disappointing but not surprising. If it's Aki and Addision so be it. That's what this November series is about - testing out the wider squad and seeing how they perform under pressure in the machine.

Kearney is still a question mark as well so it's either Larmour again or Conway. Which puts Earls and Stockdale on the wings.

It may be Aki & Ringrose or else Addison in again who did ok for his first start against the Pumas.

Beirne is worthwhile looking at for at least the bench with Toner and Ryan in second row.
Not sure Best is in greatest form and Scannell might be better but presumably Schmidt will want to have as much experience as he can. Leavy/vdF at 7, POM and Stander for the back-row with either Murphy or Conan on the bench. Props - as you were.

If Marmion has rolled his ankle, then McGrath should get his start - he's nippy and fast and used to playing with Sexton at Leinster.

So if no Kearney either, maybe
Conway/Larmour, Earls, Addison, Aki, Sexton, McGrath
Healy, Best, Furlong, Toner, Ryan, Leavy, POM, Stander
Reps: Scannell, McGrath, Ryan, Beirne, Murphy, Cooney, Carbery, Conway/Larmour

I wonder how much Schmidt was trolling the ABs with his 'I'll be talking to connor'? Even if he was better straight into an ABs test after half a year off? Hansen have straight back saying I expect him to play, when I doubt he thought anything like that at all. Fun and games
