Incredible partnership between these two, really gutsy stuff. Well done.

Good thing Santner wasn't bowling out there today, with no wickets taken we'd have never heard the end of it... 😉

    Bloody impressive batting.

I thought the test would be wrapped up before tea. Looks like the weather will play a part and it'll be a draw but given the fact the BCs just simply didn't dominate today they don't deserve to win to be honest.

Mathews is a class act. He has 200 runs in the match.

Of course it would’ve been great to roll them today and win by an innings, but it shows how great test cricket is that after a day a match has turned because of patience and application.

Good record ( although he underachieved all things considered ) and outstanding captain. That to me is why he'll always get mentioned in an all time XI

The issue with Flem was he played for NZ. He debuted the same summer as Matthew Hayden and a year after Justin Langer. All three posted initial promising returns but were quickly found out at international level. The two Australians had the luxury of being dropped and coming back once their game had matured. Flem couldn't dropped due to lack to our lack of depth and his growth was further stunted by the captaincy.

If he played for another country and was able to be put back in the domestic oven for a couple more seasons his career is remembered just for the '01 period onwards and is at worst carrying the drinks for an all time XI.

Had a check and Fleming's conversion rate was better than Parore, Coney, Guptill, Rutherford, Young.
No NZ players really make the grade on conversion rates except Crowe (48.57)
Of contemporary players, both Clarke and Hayden ended up with more centuries than fifties

I'm slightly happy that Sri Lanka have made a fight of this even though I still think we will win. Goes to show what a road Wellington is. Still my favourite Cricket ground.

Fair play Sri Lanka, surviving a whole day without a single wicket under pressure is some feat. Draw well and truly deserved.

I think the Basin pitches are getting a bit flat. When teams bowl first because they know the day 4/5 pitch is going to be an absolute road I don't think they are getting it quite right.

Yeah was wondering that myself even late in our innings.

Tough to get the balance though because our pitches generally improve over time so we'd be risking a total green top that would make winning the toss even more decisive.
