All you need to know from last season is this
Stupid plot whereby Carrie gets Brody to return so that he can 'redeem' himself by going as a double agent to facilitate a target. He gets caught and gets killed in front of her.

She is preggers with his kid.
That's all that is relevant. In fact apart from the kid it's all irrelevant.
OK. Walking Dead.

After reading this thread and seeing how popular the show is I was toying with the idea of watching the lot.

Previously I had seen about 20 minutes of an episode somewhere around season 2 and dismissed it as stupid. Bunch of people walking around trying to survive to the next episode while fighting zombies. Then I watched last nights episode and found that it was really about a bunch of people walking around trying to survive to the next episode while fighting zombies.

What am I not seeing here?

Two series where they weren't walking around for a start.

Fair enough. My random sample showed very little difference in what I was watching.

I'm sure there had been character development and relationships beginning and ending and all that but I think I would have lost patience with the lack of major plot development by now.

It's more about people trying to keep their humanity while they lose pretty much everything , the main character Rick has changed a lot since the series started considering he was a cop. If you liked Stephen Kings the stand there's elements if that in there too- no rule of law, no hospitals etc. there's also a nice twist in the usual zombie story too that means the world will probably never be able to get rid of them.
The two series they have tried to create a safe place to live both ended in disaster for different reasons. I prefer it when they are on the road anyway, obviously you hve to ignore the fact that by now petrol will be degraded and most batteries will be useless but that pretty minor in comparison to accepting mankind if outnumbered 10000 to 1 by reanimated rotting corpses.

So I've got one episode to go of The Walking Dead: the Game of Thrones season to go and then I'll be caught up and will be able to read all your spoilers.

Crucial: I felt a bit like you thinking it wouldn't be any good but it's a good series and evolves as it carries on ... and the hotness standards increase in each new series too ;). There has been some good character development over the series too. Also, pretty stupid to decide what a show is based on a 20 minute sample followed up by a 43 minute sample a couple of years later. Also, I'm not a huge zombie fan, I like the non traditional zombie stuff like Shaun of the Dead, Zombieland, Warm Bodies etc but not a big fan of the old style zombie stuff but there's enough going on for it to not be a zombie story. Plus, if you don't watch it you wont be able to understand my season rants about things that annoy me about it.

Plenty of stuff you can pick holes in, but you can say that about most programmes!

I think The Knick finished, finale was a very odd episode, but was a good series!

Yep, I am still for some reason hoping Brodies wife will make a topless appearance. At least Carrie hasn't cried in this season yet, or don't her scrunch face.

Gave up on Walking Dead when the most battle hardened person in it (Carl) walked backwards through a zombie zone leading a zombie & SHOCK backed into zombies...

There are a few reasons I watch it. The photography is movie quality at times, it just looks great. Acting is top notch, intense and surprising at times. And it's one of the few shows that main characters aren't safe from being killed (a few exceptions, but people die unexpectedly all the time).

The story, for the main part, is pretty interesting. If you watch it from the beginning (the first season is pretty short anyway) you'll get a better sense of the character progression. Carol's arc is utterly brilliant (four season character progression, she's unrecognizable as the person in season one). Rick's character has changed completely a few times now. They have scenes on this show that I can't believe they have on TV. The "flowers" scene from last season still upsets me. The BBQ scene from this season has bothered my wife alot! (Trying to avoid spoilers)

It's basically a show about how people change in adversity, and the zombies aren't the cause of most of the problems.

Worth your time, but start from the beginning.

The flowers scene stuck with me for a while. In the books it was two boys and Carl did Carols work.

Speaking of main characters dying I suspect one of my favourites is going to be killed soon, the TV show drifts in and out of the books plot lines Darrel for example doesn't exist in the book but I think they are going with a similar line to the book. The makers did say the actual method of the characters demise might not make it to tv as someone being beaten to death with a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire might be a step too far .

It wasn't so much the crazy little hint , more the sister and the situation. Carl did it with a knife while everyone else was sleeping and never told anyone , it created a fair bit of tension in the group.

You must be close to the current season now?
I wonder if this will be the end game. The characters suffer the same fate as those they have harmed. Bobby screwed Otto's beloved now, like Otto, he loses an eye.
Looking like Gemma may die by the hand of Abel.
Sure it was intentional at the end that the package contained both an iPad and an "eye on a pad". It's the kind of sick mind Sutter has. Brings new meaning to a retina display.
