2018 was a seriously shit year for movies.
There was no Bond so it can't have been that bad.
To be serious, can you even make a top 10 or was it that bad? I might check 2017 and see if that was a better year.
-
@Nepia fark, I couldnt make a 10 cos I cant recall what I have seen...guess I could scan back through this thread.
Yeah, Nah!
Of your top 9...
A Quiet Place
Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse
Avengers Infinity War
They Shall Not Grow Old
Game NightDeadpool 2 ~~Ralph Wrecks the Internet I,Tonya~~ Crossed ones I havent seen, also never seen the fish one...happily chuck Deadpool, Quiet place and Avengers in my probably top 9 for the year though. BUt then I think I have watched and enjoyed more TV shows this year than movies.

Yeah, that's why I based it on in the cinema because Event has a record of every film I've seen bar 'They Shall Not Grow Old' which I saw at Palace Cinemas.
I'd have no idea of the TV shows I've watched this year though.

@Nepia you do realise your top 10 is only 9?
Yep - I mention that in an edit to the just missed out section.

In terms of what I saw at the movies I'd have to put Solo....and nothing else because I didn't see anything else.

The Old Man and the Gun
Robert Redford, Sissy Spacek & Casey Affleck.
Redford is pretty cool and suave in the role as Forrest Tucker (based on a true story) who is a 70 something bank robber, who just loves to rob banks, sometimes on his own, sometimes as part of 'The Over the Hill Gang'
3.5 prison breaks out of 5 bank robberies.

Titanic.
It was on TV last night so sat down and watched it. It's still a masterpiece of a movie, without a doubt, although like all epics, I think at least 30-45 mins of it could have been cut as it was pretty much so not required. And Jack could have said Rose' name at least 100 times less.
However, as a chilled way to spend an evening with the wife, it's pretty good.
4 predictable endings out of 5 hearts going on

Downsizing.
Great idea that could have been really good but was absolutely fucking shit. Fuck you Maaaat Daaaamon.
-
Been travelling NZ the last couple of weeks but managed to see some movie on the plane:
Mile 22
I like that it wasn't just a "YEEHAW MURICA!" ending on this one - very much in keeping with what I imagine the world of espionage to be like i.e. nobody really fucking wins in the big picture. Plenty of pew-pew and splosions and Ronda Rousey being mannish, while the very tasty Lauren Cohan was the lead female. Wahlberg's character is angry a lot, but has an admirable lack of fucks to give. The Asian guy Asian-guyed the fuck out of it, and the Russians got involved up to their revenging ball hairs.
4 fictional Asian nations out of 5 shouty Wahlbergs.
-
Ghost In The Shell
I thought this was a pretty good homage to the anime movie of 1995, tho of course the storylines diverge in significant ways.
Parts of the visual and score are pure manga/anime mashups, and overall I thought it was really well done.
4 skin tight Johansson suits out of 5 ghost hacks.

Anyone seen the Bird Box? Didn't love it but it was the first movie in I don't know how long that gave me a nightmare that same night.
Obviously being set up for a Netflix series?
I really enjoyed it. Lots of 'edge of your seat' moment.

I hear ya and I didn't hate it, I'm just not a fan of those types of movies. True-love is the one that gets into them

yeah I watched it, was decent, rushed ending though.
@Hooroo Dont watch the Haunting of Hill House on Netflix then bro, that'll def have you up at night
