Transformers - Age of Extinction: I almost became extinct after all 165* minutes of it!!

Didnt like the leading lady, she looked like she was 15 or so, which means you cant like her, and despite finding out she is 19, doesnt change the fact!!

It was ok, typical overload on the visual senses with all the special effects, story was as weak as you'd expect it to be, so you just gotta watch it for what it is...transformers.

*I watched over 3 nights, as if I am gonna sit there for 165 fucking minutes!!

I watched a fascinating -- mindblowing, really -- documentary produced & directed by Penn & Teller last night called "Tim's Vermeer" (2014). It's about an inventor and NON-artist who wants to reproduce a Vermeer painting as proof of a theory that solves the "magic trick" Vermeer used over 300 years ago. It looks like he solved it -- or came pretty damn close -- on his first attempt at any painting. His quest takes years.

The curious thing is -- because it's Penn & Teller -- it's kinda like the Banksy doc "Exit Through the Gift Shop" (you must see this if you haven't, it's genius), and you begin to wonder if it's a hoax and you are being conned.

9/10

(Also, there's a new doc about Ralph Steadman out now. I haven't seen it, but will do so shortly...)

Death Race. The car racing sequences were great, but oh my god the dialogue was so, so fucking awful. Especially for the poor chick who kept having to spout these terrible two-word sentences.

Can't talk about the plot cos there wasn't one.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - good movie, great they didnt make it excessively long which seems the norm with most blockbusters these days! Man they should really send some real actors to whatever acting school they sent those apes to, cos man they were good! Most seemed to have a severe case of SMS though, very angry!!

Yeah really enjoyed it , there's a bit of discussion about it on the previous page.
Also enjoyed the girl from blurred lines and her two co stars making a cameo appearance.

Cheers, should have looked there first. Along similar lines, anyone seen Fury yet? I want to go, anyone who has seen it, how does it compare to Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers?

Saw Fury last night. It was good, Pitt flits between Spiers and Winters.

Rusty: It's a bit more like Saving Private Ryan than BoB. They go on a few missions (as opposed to the one of SPR) and there are a couple of decent battle scenes. One scene was almost like a Tarantino movie. The action scenes are pretty good, they show the tracers which made it look like lasers being shot in the night action.

All the cast were pretty good. It's got Shane from The Walking Dead, playing a similar character, Le Beouf was pretty good, as was the young guy.

TBH, it was like a good old fashioned war movie, but with the added realism that is needed in a post SPR and BoB world.

Really enjoyed Interstellar, usual issues with Nolan's films but it gets way more right than wrong. Special effects were epic, Matthew McConaughey is utterly brilliant, and I dunno if I'm getting sappy after having kids but those aspects really effected me.

A great modern retake on 2001.

I thought it was bloody good, aside from the odd occasion where it seemed to be going fully into 2001 mode (slow). I had no idea that the actor playing Dr Mann was playing him so was quite shocked when he turned up.

McConaughey was good, I agree, but I don't think Chastain suited the younger actress, and TBF I think I'm a bit over her - she doesn't need to be in everything.

I'm trying to work out if the cinema I saw it in had a bad sound mix or if there were deliberate parts where you're not expected to fully hear conversations - were there bits you couldn't make out?

What are the issues you have with Nolan's films? I only tend to have issues with his films involving a Bat. The Dark Knights are my two least favourite of his films by some margin.

You mentioned one of them, his sound mixes make it really hard to hear dialogue - but that can be a good thing because he (and his brother) write some real clunkers (Hathaway's love speech is impossible to play for an actor, but she'll get the grief for it). I did like they they went the opposite of Inception this time and tried to answer everything, so at least he doesn't rely on the same tricks each time.

The Mann casting got me too, nice surprise.

Regarding the Bat films, only Rises was poor. The Dark Knight is damn near perfect.
