@westcoastie fair point, he is struggling at the moment and won’t gain pace. But issue is the others are not demonstrably better. Rather have him as my change bowler than others - especially for England. Today was a great day for seamers. Hard to say that apart from Boult and Henry (who I like and just needs some games) the others were up to scratch. 2 out of 5 bowlers.

Yeh Henry bowled well today, and I'd imagine he'll go well in England. Has to be one of Milne or Fergusson. And Fergie seems less likely to break.

@kev we should have no more than two. Probably one who is there mostly on batting merits maybe - the other on bowling. So probably all of Munro, CDG, Neesham, Santner (Anderson, possibly Astle who is listed as a Batsman on Cricinfo wtf?)- we should pick only two of these.
    More specialists plz

I don't think we can look at it quite like that.

I reckon Santner is our best spinner (top two minimum) who happens to be able to hold a bat.

Munro is an opening batsman who can roll his arm over in a crisis.

Neesham is our best option to bat 6, who is also a useful bowler (if he could bowl a more consistent line!).

de Grandhomme is probably a genuine allrounder, but in a "half-baked" way - in that he's not good enough in either discipline to command a place, but together his batting and bowling make him useful to bat at 7 and share 10 overs with Neesham.

Santner did fuck all today yet Munro bowled 10? What's all that about ?

I'm actually not having a go at Mitch I'm genuinely asking.

Yep I saw that mishit and thought of all the hating ferners.

We bat very deep today although Santner ahead of CDGH is taking the piss surely. They should be 7 and 8 respectively.

@westcoastie Southee is much better bowler than CDG. CDG a better bat. Neesham showed today why his bowling can’t be relied on. He was awful bowling both sides of wicket. We had them on the ropes and that 10 over period after the front liners led to a competitive total being set.

How can Neesham - and in fact most of our bowlers - not be able to at least hit one side of the pitch? All the old bowling textbooks used to talk about landing the ball on a hankerchief!

@westcoastie Southee has done a lot more bowling at death. Stats miss a lot of things.

If he gets to bowl at the death, that should boost his average as teams are trying to slog at that point.

Munro was actually a mid-order batsman until a couple years ago. Munro-Guptill doesn't work.

Our spin options - wow - not sure whos where. I don't think Santner is a wicket taker, but hes great at containing. Sodhi doesn't build pressure for long enough, but might pick up the wickets. Haven't seen enough of Astle. Should've given Ajaz a go.

I think Neesham would be in our best XI. CDG and Southee are pretty much like for like. Similar pace, similar batting.

We have a few gaps in our squad don't we...

Not really any place for Munro in the middle order these days.

With Ajaz - I'm not a fan of "giving people a go". That's not selecting. That's what Sir Paddles seemed to do when he was a selector - trying to pull rabbits out of a hat - and he pulled out plenty (of rabbits), while destroying his best marginal players' confidence by repeatedly dropping and recalling them.

I'm almost inclined to tell selectors that they've got 25 player selections (in any form) and then their selecting career is over.

New rule: Kane and Ross get any review anytime they fucking want.

    Otherwise we don't win games!

Based on DRS referral choices, Williamson is unlikely to do a Chris Gaffaney when he retires...

    @Siam Gah!

That over we just got 10 off was important. Calm Kane down.

We only really need to push it around to have four an over off 30 overs - as long as wickets are in hand.

    Then 170 off 40 overs.

Need these two to take it deep.

Threw it away - probably the game as well!

You got a whiff of a BC’s implosion?

It’s still there for the taking, but It’ll take some sensible batting for the next 15 overs to get us there.

@Gunner It is a long way out to be four down, including most of our "solid" players.

Latham and Williamson were going along so nicely according to my schedule - we had a lot of batting to get us home in the last 10 overs if those two had just pushed it around and kept it on the deck through to 40 overs.
