They were two pretty average lineups tbf.

About the only thing these pre-season games show is how dependant on their ABs the teams are.

@Stargazer very hard watch..but credit to the chiefs with such under strength team..scrum has got to be a concern ,felt the Reds an edge throughput the 80

Stevenson's style of play still annoys me - that kind of "too cool to try hard" style - a bit like Nonu very early doors and a definite feature of Curtis Ambrose's play.

@Bones I have to agree with you there. There is something about the (obviously talented) guy that doesn't work for me as much as it does others. Maybe you have just pinpointed it.
I can forgive errors from players giving it their all but not from the 'too cool for school' types

@Crucial yeah, case in point where he has almost a free run to the try line, spots a defender he probably could have beaten if he tried, so throws a lazy pass inside and then buggers off when it's not regathered.

@Steven-Harris as to the chiefs scrum - only one of their top 5 props played last night and that was Moli playing loosehead who hasn't played in like a year (the other 4 all being All Blacks). Plus add Brodie and Harris to the tight five. They had a very good scrum last season despite the crazy injury toll so I think they will be ok.

And suddenly, I feel much more confident about our chances of getting to a semi.

We won’t win it, but if BBBR and Dmac and most of our props stay healthy, we’ll be dangerous and fun to watch, with a playoff loss my predicted outcome.

@taniwharugby yeah, loving these veteran playing coming back for 2nd stints (e.g. Nonu) - although for Beaver it's his 3rd 🙂

Have noted Matty Lansdown missing from all 'extra wider training groups'. Just surprised to see him awol when number 10s in such short supply. Is the injury suffered with the NZ Maoris a longer-term problem? I hope not.

Beaver in his zimmer frame is still a better option than MMac.

@ARHS was hoping Northland have a look at Landsdowne for Mitre 10 Cup given that the word doing the rounds is that Solomon Alaimalo is heading to Waikato ..if that is the case Landsdowne won’t be getting to much game time at fullback..
