Black Caps v India

That new fella that played last night, what does he bowl? Didn't see the Indians bat so have no idea if he is a quick or not. I had never heard of him. Did he look any good?

@Crazy-Horse No real point of difference to him. Tall but not quick, no evidence of swing and he bowled a scrambled seam mostly. Slower ball, but who hasn't. Looked like a rank and file medium quick who wouldn't get a game in big bash even if he was born with the congenital disease known as Australian.
Benefited from being an unknown and if played another game against the same batters I'd expect cooernage.
Had a lovely attitude towards the fixture though

@Siam @Crazy-Horse I thought he bowled with good energy, really banging it in around the late 130s. Being a tall lad I reckon he provides a point of difference with a bit of extra bounce.
Also great to see Kuggelijn getting it through in the very high 140s too. Needs to work on accuracy, coz at the moment he’s serving the opposition at least one steak & cheese an over.

When you are international player you don't get to brag really about your international accomplishments.. otherwise you are a fucking knob. But at club level trashing your club mates and pointing to your century on the honors boards is a rite of passage.Ewen Chatfield never even managed a 50 at club level and has just recently retired however his innings against Pakistan with Coney surely beats anything Boult has ever done ( so far )
That was epic. And Charlie had to battle his own demons after swallowing his tongue after being hit in the head in the pre-helmet wearing era
Happened prior to me being into cricket so I don't remember it but in the context of the game it's probably the most important 21 not out of all time. Apparently he faced more balls than Coney did.
If you're that big a fan you should start catching executive cabs, chances are you'll stumble upon him.

I was wondering how the average social cricketer would match up against former players a few times during the Black Clash too - particularly that first over where Dagg was bowling to Fleming.
This led to an contentious debate between me and a mate (both mid 30s social cricketers who can crack 115km/h at best) about who would be the most recent former NZ test captain (in their current age/state) you could legitimately dismiss given 5 overs at them?
The feeling was 67-year old Geoff Howarth for sure (particularly after a few pints), but that Ian Smith could be a wildcard given he hasn't picked up a bat at any level in 25 years and would perhaps have some physical...uh... limitations. Even in their 60s you'd have to think Coney, Wright and Jeff Crowe would be too good.

I dont think Smithy would be running too many quick singles.

I think Mark Geenty probably has the situation pretty much spot on. Astle and Sodhi fighting for a spot. Seifert, Munro and de Grandhomme probably done enough in recent games. Bracewell will be unlucky.

I think I recall him getting one at the National Club Championships a few years ago. I think it was his first year in the test team or before he made the test team, as I was then surprised to see how 'bad' he was at batting at test level.
However he is probably the most effective bad batsman I have seen so far in my life.

It's weird because all 3 of Seifert, Munro and CdG have shown form in 20 overs which is a distinctly different game to 50 overs. It's all very well to have batsmen playing "their natural game" but I'd rather have more selective hitters who can build an innings. A quick 30 isn't going to cut it ....
CdG will probably be OK due to the CWC being in England - I wouldn't pick him for the sub-continent as he isn't accurate enough as a bowler.

@KiwiPie Munro is a really weird one, because if his T20 record was his ODI record, he'd actually be a reasonable ODI batsman.
Average of 33.6; strike rate of 162 - three hundreds and nine fifties from 49 innings.
I'd take that over the untested Henry Nicholls opening.
