The Blues could drive someone to murder (or suicide) but I have been a bit busy moving further north and didn't have time to do either. The neighbourhood has gone to the dogs , not that I am in Snells, but it is close enough, so up the coast I go away from the murders, or temptation to commit one.

Ok..what? Self described Asians are claiming the word Asian as a descriptor for them is 'incredibly racist service'..and it makes the front page of stuff.
If you think your own ethnic background "Asian" is a pejorative then I think it might be you with the problem not the restaurant.
I can actually understand her logic. She just wants to be seen as everyone else in her native country and when some someone refers to her as "Asian" there can be whole shitload of loaded nuances that goes with that term.
Being of that ethnicity if it happened to me I might be annoyed, depends on how I was treated by the staff. Maybe I'd boycott the place if I felt that strongly (depends how good the food was....). Maybe I'd tell my mates. I don't think I'd go whingeing to the media about it though, seems like the response was disproportionately strong
I've never quite understood why Kiwi's group everyone from Iran - the Philippines as "Asian" and then get hot and bothered when called an Aussie.
Given the negativity associated with "Asian" I can understand that she got triggered. We wouldn't be questioning her stance if the restaurant worker had described a customer as "black"
Why ring the Ferald though? That I don't get
Why? Is it because it would be weird to describe an Asian as black?
I know in NZ we never really are comfortable with describing people as black but it seems to be extremely accepted over here in the UK.
I had a black Brit working for me in the UK one time who we were trying to get to serve on a diversity committee. Another colleague referred to him as black when an HR person, black, female from the US, took offence on his behalf and said we should use the term African American. He ( the black guy) said he wasn’t American or African and he was offended at her presumption. We didn’t get him to serve.

Didn't some US interviewer on tele keep asking a British sprinter about how he felt as an African American about some specific achievement ... I may be mistakem. Will have to google.
