I love the part where the U.S. Government in the 1950s wants a "Manchurian Candidate" mind-control drug before the Soviets get one and they become extremely concerned when the C.I.A. learns the discoverers/ inventors of the drug (Sandoz labs in Switzerland) have saturated the market with 100-million hits of acid. (It was legal at the time.) The U.S. gov't. panics and quickly decides they should purchase all the available acid on the market. Small problem: the C.I.A. analyst mixes up milligrams and kilograms and the calculation is mistaken by a factor of one million. Actual number of tabs on the market: 100.

(The Michelob commercials are also a nice touch.)

Boggs, a Hall of Famer who played for the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays, has made the astonishing claim that he once consumed 107 beers in one day while making a cross-country flight in the US.

Boggs - a legendary drinker who once offered the simple rationale that “you get bored on a cross-country flight” - made the claim to actor Charlie Day while filming an episode of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”, in which he played himself as a hallucination.

The show set out to have characters challenge Boggs’ drinking exploits, thinking that his mark was somewhere south of 70 beers.

Yet Day said he was then told by Boggs that they weren’t even close to his true number.

“He was famous for baseball, he was also famous for the number of beers he could drink,” Day said of Boggs on the Tonight Show.

The mark was supposedly reached with Boggs drinking before reaching the airport, on the flight and during a stopover, then going out the same night. Other Boggs urban legends have claimed that he once polished off 64 Miller Lites on a cross-country flight - a number he has refused to confirm or deny.

Adding to Boggs’ legend was his incredible consistency over his 18-year MLB career, which finished with more than 3000 hits, despite his epic boozing exploits.

If true, the 107-beer mark leaves one of Australia’s most revered drinking records in the shade.

Boon, the pugnacious Australian batsman, carved out his legend by drinking 52 cans of beer on Australia’s journey to England for the 1989 Ashes.

Boon was striving to break the record of 51 cans held by Rod Marsh, an effort that saw the wicketkeeper carried off the plane. Legend has is that Boony was stranded on 49 cans as the plane approached Heathrow, until the pilot was told to make a couple of loops to enable the record to be broken.

Boon was able to walk off the plane and went to a XXXX sponsor’s function that evening, according to teammate Dean Jones.

Having provoked the wrath of coach Bob Simpson with his unprecedented binge, Boon went on to have a mediocre run against the Poms despite a series victory. In six Tests he did not record a century, though did make three fifties.
