Watched The Judge last night. Good cast, average writing - seemed confused as to what genre it wanted to be. Not a lot to commend it really. Save it for a rainy day.

Watched (most of) Fury last night. I'm a sucker for war movies and this is good. Gritty, well written and acted. Some excellent cinematography and if you've ever wondered what a lot of MGs and medium armaments look like, the effects are superb.
-

71 - A dark and violent movie set in NI, I assume in 1971 ;)...about a young soldier who gets left behind following a riot on the streets.

Pretty simple story as you follow him after the riot as he tries to stay alive, but told pretty well largely with the tense atmosphere throughout.
-
Transformers 4: Fuck you Michal Bay for once again ruining this franchise. Christ what a shit film.

So, saw the final Hobbit film last night. It was, um, well, good? Not great, just good. Plenty of battle scenes and action and shit, but again, too much pointless shit, and some of the CGI was terrible.

Overall, i give the trilogy about a 7. The Lord of the Rings was fucking amazing, and changed how people viewed filming fantasy. Pete put his heart and soul into that trilogy, his attention to detail was bordering on psychotic. And they had a lot of material to use for 3 movies.

This time? you could tell his heart wasn't completely in it. And to be honest, there is probably 2 very good movies in that 3 good ones, if you cut out the stupid shit. Could they not decide if they were doing a dark version, or a light version? All 3 movies veer wildly from one to the other. Glad it was made, glad i watched it. Will probably watch the 3 in a marathon when the inevitible box set comes. But it's not going to hold the same level of reverence as i do for the Rings movies.

However, Evangeline Lilly as hot female elf #1 has taken over from Trinity as #1 in my "sexiest movie character" stakes.
-

Yeah maybe even 1 film if they stuck to where the book was going. While all the songs and dancing-merrily-through-the-woods high fantasy shit wasn't going to wash, things like Tom Bombadil must have been a borderline call. It was good that they elaborated on the Dol Guldur (Sauron as the Necromancer) but I wouldn't have missed it.

The fact is, the books were all male-dominated as fuck, and were never going to make great movies without some serious fucking around in terms of draping it in ovaries and hoping women would turn up. But the nerd girls would have anyway, if only for the homoerotic tones of Sam and Frodo bitch/butching it up around Tongariro.

Anyway, top job Jackson and NZ in general. I reckon it was about the only place you could have made that movie, despite the whinging of a few Pommy purists who had never seen the joint.
-

have yet to see the final installment of The Hobbit, but felt they made it (needlessly) darker than the books, and obviously making 3 movies from 1 book when they made 3 movies from 6 (in my book set) books

-

right you are, it has 7 books in the box...still, 3 movies for that vs 3 movies for The Hobbit, a book he wrote for his kids

Scarlett Johanson in those movies where she beats up people in a tight black costume. I don't know the name, its not important.
-
It's about an American war hero....what do you think?

A movie about an american sniper directed by Clint Eastwood was bound to bring the usual leftards ranting about some aspect of it. It only deals with the insurgents in Iraq who behave like animals. Their atrocities are well documented and the movie features a couple of them.
-

I didn't think so, and it's nowhere near as anti Arab as Kyle comes across in his book.
-

Nope. It's not pro or anti war either. The coverage of this film has been bizarre.
-
I don't remember him being anti Arab so much but he loathed the people he was fighting against and referred to them as animals. My memory could be wrong but anyone who tortures people with a cordless drill is an animal. The film did gloss over some of the more obnoxious qualities of Kyle that come through in the book. I thought the movie was very good.

Also Sienna Miller looked hot/dirty with dark hair. -

all about perspective I guess...I felt it was more 'Team America' than say Zero Dark Thirty
