New Zealand v Bangladesh Test #2

Those Bangladeshi 9, 10 and 11 make a mockery of test level and professional cricket. That Bangladesh has had ample time and money to take advantage of that huge population, raises many questions.
On a positive note, Chats is a legend. Early 1990s Hutt Valley had a Hawke cup challenge in Nelson. On the Saturday night I joined the Valley boys on the traditional night out. Chats was playing (40 something?) and was pouring through the jugs. Bloody witty, but it took a bit to adjust to his understated way of talking. Obviously the young lads were on the strut and prowl but Chats got heaps of attention from, well now days they're called milfs. An abiding highlight of my sad life recalls us all striding down the middle of Hardy St at 2 am with Chats calling out my name and asking " how far to the strip club!"
And no, no shenanigans from Chats, he's too classy for that, he was just out being a team man.

@Siam Cricket is a middle class sport. Bangladesh only now is starting to get one.
If population playing a sport is all it takes, the Chinese would be crushing in football. But enough money to train your young ones properly is far more important.

@Chester-Draws I've had a fair bit to do with Bangladesh cricket. It's corruption and intentional nest feathering.
Actually Chinese national cricket teams demonstrated strong ethics in the tournament's I've been involved with
A trip to any cricket club in Australia and any pass through an Indian town will dispute the claim that cricket is a middle class sport. It used to be that being noticed was class specific, that's decreasing and in no way an excuse for the poor cricket from Bangladesh (in the main) for 15 years

Bangladesh have gotten a lot better though. They are a competitive side and could even beat us at home on a good day (we lost 4-0 in ODIs over there). Their batting is okay in placid conditions or at home. It's just that they can't develop even one quality fast bowler. Just look at the averages from the past 4/5 years. Even a team like Sri Lanka who aren't that good have some decent fast bowlers like Lakmal. It's probably a combination of Bangladesh not having the pitches and the people don't have the proper nutrition. It takes a lot to bowl at 135+ which is generally what you need.
It is worth noting Bangladesh have finished above us at each of the last three u-19 tournaments.

Ha, that's sensational.
Like I said, had never actually heard him speak, he's only just retired from cricket at 68, he still played all the while working six days a week doing the corporate cab thing.
In other news the Black Cap openers completely forgot what they did last test and managed 8 between them.
But KW and Rossco are at the crease, we'll be aight.....

@hydro11 India, SL and Pakistan produce quick bowlers on the same type of pitches.
They're no longer new to international cricket and surely have enough resources to coach international tail enders to be at least as good with the bat as 3rd grade club cricketers.

Just like India really (up to a few years ago). Then they developed some pathways, invested in the training, and you get guys like Bumrah and a good quality pace attack.
It can be done, but i tmeans less gin for the administrators. Therefore unlikely to happen

I think we are the only team that can win from here. We just need to bat quickly and rack up 350 - 400 by about tea and then hope our bowlers can get some wickets.
If we collapse in a heap and are all out for 150 or so, it will still be very difficult for Bangladesh to win. They'll have to bat quickly to set a total and then bowl us out. Seems very unlikely and risky on their part.

@Damo Hard to see us losing 18 wickets in two days, with the Bangles somehow needing to fit an innings in as well.
I think we probably have to play it like we're expecting a full days play tomorrow - which for me means batting at least an hour after tea and aiming for a lead of at least 200 - preferably a bit more. Be good to remove most of the prospect of batting again and losing a couple of overs to the change of innings.
