49ers also to sign Bucs LB Kwon Alexander to a massive contract
It's essentially only a 2 year deal.
49ers have also traded for Chiefs pass rusher Dee Ford for 2nd round pick in 2020. Contract for Dee Ford is supposedly 5 years $87.5 million.

Is he any good?

@canefan Dee Ford? Yes. He had 13 sacks and 7 forced fumbles last year. He lead the league in QB pressures for edge rushers last year.
@KiwiMurph We got a veteran edge rusher at least. Now just strengthen the O-line a bit more.

The CBA ends at the end of next season so pretty much every deal only guarantees money for the next two years (which is pretty normal anyway).
As a Jets fan this has been a rubbish start to free agency. Missed out on Paradis and basically everyone with even the slightest pedigree for rushing the passer (Barr joins the list of guys to have committed to and then reneged on the Jets; that list headed by Belicheck so good company).
The Giants moves are creating hope that they'll trade up. A desperate hope for an otherwise forlorn franchise with one of the worst owners in the league.

@Cyclops isn't the draft stacked with pass rushers?

The Giants have won two Superbowls this century.

That's hope for Jets fans that they'll be able to trade down with the Giants and pick up an extra first or a couple of seconds.

Sounds like Le'veon Bell is heading to the Jets. Apparently much less interest than he expected, so might 'only' be getting 10-12 million per year. Turned down a deal worth about 15 per year and refused to play on a franchise tender worth around 14.
If the Jets have really paid in that price bracket, I'm cautiously optimistic about the signing.

The Ravens are signing Pro Bowl safety Earl Thomas (former Seahawk) to a 4-year, $55 million deal.
49ers sign RB Tevin Coleman to a 2 year $10 million deal. Coleman used to play under Shanahan's offense in Atlanta so is a perfect scheme fit.

Coleman an interesting one. The falcons loved him, but Freeman outperformed him. Coleman led the league in rushes for losses as well (or a similar negative stat) but is also a genuine big play threat. Will be great in a supporting role, but not as the number one I think.
The price is about right though, which is the key thing. Just need McKinnon to play, and play like the number one rb he was signed to be.

@Cyclops I think expecting too much from McKinnon is dangerous - a RB coming back from an ACL injury. I'd say that plays a factor in the Coleman signing.
@KiwiMurph Tells me that the Jet may be grounded again.
In other news, Facebook is down and Blake Bortles has been released by the Jaguars.

The Gronk has retired. Short career compared to others but he will make the hall of fame for sure.

Huge loss for the Pats. He's possibly their best player. Having the combo of team friendly Brady deals and Gronk favouring long term high guarantee deals over maximising value has given the Pats front office a lot of cap room to build their championship team.
First ballot Hall of Famer in his first year of eligibility for sure.

Gun player. Great attitude. Will be missed in the league. Almost as important to the Pats as Brady. You just knew, if it was in the fourth, and the Pats were facing a 3rd and long, it was going to be a quick pass to Gronk and he would make the yards required +1. Every. Single. Time.

@mariner4life Also a guy who, despite his so-called party ways, has been pretty frugal with his spending. He apparently hasn't used any of his money made from playing football (only money made from sponsorship deals) and lives a somewhat minimalist lifestyle.
