@mariner4life Much like the "grunge" and "alternative" music they drew from. What was there, about one year of good "grunge"?

For me Nirvana was really the only massive grunge band.

Nirvana to me were always massively overrated although like any budding young guitarist I forgot trying to emulate Joe Satriani and busted out a perfect version of "Smells like Teen spirit" to attract the ladies. I played left handed too for even more authenticness.

STP, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden blew them the fuck out of the water in my opinion.

@MN5 Soundgarden and Alice in Chains are probably the only straight grunge bands I still like. I like the doom and stoner rock/metal stuff from that era a lot more.

I wouldn't classify Soundgarden as grunge. Alice in Chains yes. They are fucking awesome tho.

Gary Clark Jr - ain't too shabby.

Reminiscent in some ways of Black Joe Lewis (& the Honeybears) - and if you don't know him/them - rectify.

just realised every single band in my initial post lost a singer 😞 could also add my perennial favourites from that era Faith no More given their original singer before Mike Patton succumbed to the Black Dog last year.....

I just found a Metallica live acoustic set they did for some charity gig that has just been put on Spotify

It's pretty good for something different

Bleeding Me would be in my top 10 Metallica songs (i doubt there are many people anywhere who would say that) and the acoustic version is fucking tops.

Once upon a time I would have. Was on regular rotation when the Load/Reload albums came out., along with The Outlaw Torn, Carpe Diem Baby, Low Mans Lyric & The Memory Remains.

Of all those, only The Outlaw Torn is still played. Probably in my Top 10 Metallica tracks.

Something else worth checking out if you like Hardwired (as I do). They did a professionally filmed version of them playing Halo On Fire in Portugal. It's absolutely epic, but to show how concert demographics differ ... at one point they should a few kids aged around 8-10 in the front row!

Outlaw torn is fucking great. I really like Load I think it's a great album. Reload not so much.

@mariner4life Fugazi ... the ultimate one-hit wonder (for me). Waitng Room.

Tried to listen to the album it was on once about 20 years ago and couldn't get involved beyond the one song. Never tried again!

After listening to Waiting Room just now I can't even get into the one hit wonder. What is weird is I have no knowledge of their music, well I should say memory, because I had mates who used to be big fans and there's no chance I wouldn't have heard them at their place or in their cars.

I saw Fugazi about a dozen times. And why not...? For a $7 concert, they couldn’t be beat. Fantastic band live.

I’m definitely not a left-winger, but I had nothing but absolute mad respect for the band. They walked the talk. They were not phoneys. They were completely committed and passionate and gave the best bang for a buck of any band in rock history.

Turning the clock back nearly 40 years and thrashing Stiff Little Fingers - Hanx on the headphones at work at the moment.
Saw them live last night for the first time ever despite this album being one of my favourites ever since it came out in 1980. Still crack out a good gig with plenty of energy.
Bonus was Eddie and the Hot Rods as support.

Edit: Jake Burns managed a call out to the events in NZ last week. I won't mention exactly how he led to his comments as the thread would have to shift quickly to the politics thread. The sentiment was appreciated though.
