The Dirt
Motley Crue biopic just put on on Netflix. Based on the book by the four of them, and they are executive producers, so that either makes it authentic, or heavily edited, you can decide for yourself.
It's weirdly made. It is almost like a Lifetime movie at times, looking very much a made-for-tv format, and light hearted, but with a very predictable cycle (band forms, band explodes, excess happens, shit goes off the rails, band reforms with heartfelt messages of "brothers"). With Wonder Years type voice-overs, and then you get some fourth-wall breaks as a character will speak directly to you.
But, of course, to balance all of the above, there is a fuck ton of tits and drug use. Real cliche rock and roll shit. Getting fucked up. Blowjobs in bars. Trashing hotels. you know, the usual. Still, the heroin process is pretty detailed, they certainly didn't skimp on that part.
I think there is a concerted effort to keep it light hearted throughout (Tommy Lee is basically a goofball. His "average day on the road" is a highlight), and while the serious shit is shown, it does sort of pass you by. I think they were trying to show that despite it all, they had a fuck load of fun.
It's no awards season Queen movie, it's a pretty fun look at four fuckheads from LA that made it very, very big in the 80s hair metal scene. And maybe the fact we are so used to musician biopics being dark and brooding and fuuuucking serious that when you get one that really isn't, you have trouble with it. I still found it a heap of fun, especially the first half.

Might check it out, I read the autobiography of Steve Adler (original GnR drummer) few years ago. He was mates with Nikki Sixx and talked of how often they hit high together. Completely fucked up at times, I’m amazed both are still alive.

Teaser would be my favourite song of theirs but in terms of great rock acts they're firmly in the lower division for me.

A small thing that irked me about the Crue movie (which I really enjoyed) is they didn't show how Sixx went on to right Kick Start My Heart straight after his OD and I was gutted it wasn't in the Movie and then stoked they played out the whole song in the credits.
I read the book years ago (Was it called Decade of Decadence?) and it was a good read on how they lived. The movie kind of captured that but I always thought the rest of the band also did a tonne of drugs
