Like most of these leaks, it will be one proposal of many. But this part doesn't work for NZ SR teams: "all Super Rugby teams featuring their home city or region in their names." So that's the 'bottom of the south island Highlanders' vs the 'bombays and then north Blues' the 'odd bits left over from the blues and canes in the middle of the north island Chiefs' vs the 'bottom and east, sorta, of the north island Hurricanes'

The 'top of the south island NAME TBC's' have a bye

So because Japan won't pay for their shit full of foreignerw team, big Nations are stopping little Nations play?

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/super-rugby/111938082/japan-captain-michael-leitch-says-top-nations-wont-let-anyone-else-in

Fuck off Michael, my respect for you has gone. He's not even playing for the wolves because he is on international duties. What a knob.

@Machpants he's sort of half right. There is a definite feel the economics are listened to more than "the good of the game". And the Sunwolves probably are the best chance for Asian growth. And playing Super rugby does prepare players more for Test rugby.

However he glosses over the fact that the Sunwolves in their current guise are worthless for growing anything. Full of imports, not embraced by the local union as a pathway, very little identity. Waste of space really.

Not a complete waste of space, they are very entertaining to watch this year.

Particularly enjoyed the game in Hamilton 🙂

It's not a (very) broke Ozzie, Bok or NZ to encourage rugby in Asia by paying for it tho, that's the big thing. Jap teams are stealing our players with big cash, but can't play a relative pittance for 'their' SR team. All the vitriol directed at SANZAAR for this pisses me off, it should all be pointed at the JRU.

The Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) is pleased to confirm St.George Queensland Reds head coach Brad Thorn will remain at Ballymore through 2020.

One year. That isn't a very long contract extension for a coach.

    @Machpants

I think that’s about right. There is plenty of money here, but they didn’t get the Top League teams on board and didn’t chose one team to go up. Then they didn’t fund the SWs and really recruit top class talent, so they’ve put themselves in this position.

Didn't he sign a ten year agreement?

@taniwharugby That huge win brings them right back in a wildcard position.

    .

Some great tries in that game as well. Awesome seeing a loosie (Matera) chase his own kick and score from it!

@Stargazer did you watch the Jaguares? I'm thinking of finding a replay to look at - but if it's an error riddled mess then probably not worth it!

Edit: asking if anyone has seen it and recommends it as a watch

Wonder what the thinking behind that is. He is deemed good enough to play at Super Rugby but not good enough for the lower level of NZ Under 20s. Must be the Craig Philpott factor.

@Canes4life Well, if the Canes don't offer him a (development) contract ...

I doubt he'll see any/much game time for the Landers, but it will be a good experience training with them. It's expecially great because of that combo with Fakatava that will continue in the Mitre 10 Cup season.

@Higgins Yeah, that's exactly what the missus and I concluded, last night (I saw a post from McC on instagram that he was in Dunedin and we hoped/thought that he might have received the call-up from the Highlanders). Only one sentence in the Hawke's Bay Today article about the weekend's club rugby confirmed the call-up. Weird that they didn't discuss it further.

Sorry, forgot to answer. I have only seen the highlights, so I don't know whether the whole game is worth watching. I think I'll record the replay on Sky Sport 1 tomorrow morning at 11.25am and watch it later, if I can find the time. I think that is the only replay; the rest seems to be highlights only.

    From Yealden:

Random Super Rugby stat of the day:

    • In the first four games this season (Blues, Hurricanes, Reds & Chiefs) the Crusaders have outscored their opposition 79-17 in the first half, but were outscored in the second half 67-62 of those same fixtures
    • In their last four games (Waratahs, Hurricanes, Brumbies & Highlanders) the Crusaders have been outscored 40-31 in the first half, but have outscored their opposition in the second half 92-19 😲
      That's all ... as you were 🤓
