Sky just still don't get it do they? (or want to get it).

A main reason GoT is the most pirated show in the world is that it's distribution was screwed up. People these days want to watch things as they want, when they want. HBO required a full Cable subscription and provided no other avenue to purchase. That easily seeded the ground for copies to be distributed, even to people who would prefer to pay.

Now Sky, who own the NZ broadcast and online rights, have only half pie met the need. I have subscribed to SoHo so I can watch the new series of GoT and Orphan Black. That entails a full Sky sub plus the SoHo add on. Yet if I want to watch it away from my sky decoder, I am expected to pay another $20 a month for the streaming version on Neon.

They won't stream channels like SoHo on SkyGo because they want to make you pay twice for the same thing.

This is my first foray into paying for this product and in doing the 'right' thing, I have removed the ability to watch when and where I want.

Edit: anyone else got that theme tune running through their head today?
-

I guess now that you pay for it you can download it guilt free from other places and watch it at your leisure.

Yeah, it just pisses me off that Sky deliberately try to hang on to old school ways as long as they can.

Their Neon service should be free to subscribers of content. If I pay for SoHo I should get SoHo content available on that platform for the current period (1 week). I will pay more if I want to access movies content or back catalogue.

I hardly download anything since Lightbox came along. Plenty to watch on that, and with full binge back catalogue capability. Only improvement would be if I could buffer a show on wifi then watch it when not connected (with a time limit of course). Would be great to access an episode at work then watch it on the train on the way home.
-

Seems a bit bonkers that they haven't made it available to subscribers. That would tip me over the edge and I'd unsubscribe from SoHo to be honest.

So have you been watching rugby on streams all this time?
-

No. Have Sky and Mysky and Skysport. Can watch games when the happen on my iPad though through SkyGo, which can be quite good if away from home or if the game is an early one, I will sometimes have it going on the ipad in the kitchen while cooking. Late ones, I can watch in bed.

I admit that I can only watch them outside of broadcast time if I record them but for live sport that doesn't worry me so much as if I don't watch it live I usually scan through the game.
-

Anyone with Foxtel should no longer be downloading episodes now that it's screened at the same time as the US.

Small wonder Australians are horrific piraters the way the distributors have treated them over the years.
-

poor old Sky TV...first episodes get leaked, then...

Are other places airing it 'live' as well, given it'd be 2am in the UK?

I still struggle to work out how (and I guess why) these get leaked, unless done so on purpose, and then, what is the benefit to the 'leaker'? I mean surely only x number exist, and only certain people have access, are peope willing to risk thier job to leak them?

Maybe they need to ditch the old screeners, as often these are good quality versions that get leaked well in advance.

You can d/l from pretty much any Torrent site for free, do all those annoying pop-ups go towards paying the 'leaker' or is it the prestige of being the first?
-

UK is one of the few countries that haven't taken up the simulcast, presumably because of the time.

I don't really care as I most likely won't be watching until after 8.30 anyway, but the joke is that this was all done by HBO to help reduce the number of torrents and Sky took up the offer to drive sales of SoHo so that people could watch it quicker than waiting for a torrent.

Seems a lot of people have subscribed to SoHo because of the earlier showing and they are the ones making the most noise and now suggesting they just go back to the illegal ways.

If Sky didn't have such a track record of fails every time they get a technological loading you could forgive them for this, but SkyGo seems to crash everytime there is a major event as well.
-

Yup! WC Cricket and also the Masters this morning. Hopeless.
-

Anyone been watching the Daredevil series on Netflix? Another Marvel series, but this one is aimed at adults (very violent, filmed like a movies, great acting).

It's an adaption of the Frank Miller graphic novel, and man they are nailing it. So good.
-

Thanks for that. I'm getting pretty tired of all the comic book shit at the moment, but if it is done well I'll have a go.
-

Finale of Justified...

Overall, pretty happy, sure it might be a bit nice, but largely happy with only really a couple of wee surprises at the end.

Wonder if the wriiters have thought of a spin off series from this, maybe Wynn Duffy

Also been watching a series called Fortitude, set in a town on a Norwegian research island in the Artic, when thier first ever violent crime is a murder the hunt for the killer starts you learn more about the reasons many of the residents and why some moved to this isolated frozen island.
-

I thought it was pretty good ... wasn't too nice IMHO, not every show has to end Breaking Bad style.
- Can't believe that he still stuffed it up with Winona, the dickhead.

- Disappointed we didn't get to see what Loretta was doing with her legal weed enterprise.

- Also, disappointed we didn't get to see Wynn doing something Wynn like.

- I got my wish that both Raylan and Boyd came out of it reasonably fine. Same too with Ava. I thought for a moment they were going to have Raylan shack up with Ava, that would have been uuuuurghh.

- Glad they didn't just kill of a Marshal (Art, Sniper or Rachel) just do have some drama at the end.
I'm not getting tired of it per se, but there is a lot out there and Netflix have another 4 series to come.

I watched the first episode the other day actually on Netflix. Can't say I was impressed with it, but then again it was setup episode so you never can tell how the series is going to go. I don't particularly like the main actor, he was on Boardwalk Empire and I didn't think much of him then.

But I'll give a few more episodes a watch and hopefully the following episodes are better.
-
Re your spolier nepia...I agree with it all.

I guess compared to most shows finales it was pretty much how I wanted it to end.

Also agree on Winona, which along with Zachariah was the wee surprise I mentioned.

Too many shows seem to kill someone for the sake of it or to add drama. -

This was an interview with Justified's creator, Graham Yost.

He mentions that his US Marshall advisors said that if anyone kills a Marshall: "Then it's really Blackhawk helicopter time. The 8th Army invades if a marshal is killed."

A lot of Elmore Leonard references.

It was a good programme I reckon
