This was an interview with Justified's creator, Graham Yost.

http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-watching/justified-producer-on-who-lived-and-who-died-in-the-finale-and-a-mags-cameo-that-wasnt/

He mentions that his US Marshall advisors said that if anyone kills a Marshall: "Then it's really Blackhawk helicopter time. The 8th Army invades if a marshal is killed."

A lot of Elmore Leonard references.

It was a good programme I reckon

The UK Sky services are technologically far better than the NZ services. Even several years ago my UK box had a better UI and PVR than the current NZ equivalent, with good features you didn't know you needed until you had them, like an undelete function and a copy out function. And it didn't look like a child was in charge of the graphic design team.

The remote control functionality is far better. Just before I left it introduced a 2TB box and Wifi connection. You had access to an on demand back catalogue including box sets of hundreds of shows, and multi-device capability at no extra cost. I can only assume the reason they don't do likewise here is because they choose not to, not because they can't.

The one I really resent is the "HD Pass" bullshit that makes you pay every month for a "feature" that should be standard.

While we are asking about shows, has anyone seen Manhattan? Set around the Manhattan Project in Los Alamos. Gets good reviews but not overly known due to being on a minor network.

Nepia, TR, Siam- I thought the Justified finale was really good. I'm disappointed I reckon with 70% of finales, they are so hard to pull off and the ones that do are really rare. Either go for too much drama, or too much sentiment. It's a fine line, and I thought they pretty much nailed it.
The shootout on the road was epic, I was worried that after the barn scene that that would be the end of the action (only halfway through the episode). I loved Boone as a character, that was a great finish.

I was a bit annoyed about him and Winona too, but in reality it could never have worked, and I think the 'happily ever after' would have been untrue to the show. At least he's still there for his kid, which is a nice compromise.

I was also worried he'd shack up with Eva, but I thought the way they ended that was good too. The last scene was perfect I thought, and the last line even better.

Though I didn't quite get the worry over Boyd finding Eva- surely he'd be on consecutive life sentences? He murdered three people in the barn alone, including two cops!!
Justified
yea you just know that Boyd and Raylan want to be friends, but also know they can't and shouldn't be...thier interactions were always a highlight for me.

Yea Boone was a cool bad guy, which is why I was worried the finale would see him take out Raylan...

Was also a nice touch how Raylan speculated on how Ava escaped with Wynn and what he is up to.

What I meant by a nice finale was just they didn't kill any of the main guys off, which I feared they may do, they tied up most of the main loo ends, but I enjoyed it as an episode and a finale...show has been pretty consistent in its delivery and storylines.
Orphan Black starts season 3 tomorrow.

Might have to rewatch the last couple of S2 as there were quite a big few plotlines introduced

This Character guide is quite good as a quick refresher as well.

I think the TV thread needs a bump. Watched the finales of Vikings S3 and The Americans S3 recently.

Vikings: As we've been saying it's been an up and down season with some really good stuff and some not as good stuff. The final was the same. The show seemed to lack a focus on Ragnar this year. Yes he was around lots this season but he was never the focal character and I think he needs to be. I like Bjorn's development though and the path they set Rollo on could be interesting (as long as they don't just repeat the Ragnar v Rollo stuff of the past). It was quite funny because as soon as they got to Paris a light bulb went off in my head and I clicked who Rollo was. As ever Lagertha is hot, and she clearly still has the hots for Ragnar going by her speech in the finale.
I was bloody surprised when the killed off Athelstan, he seemed like a key character who would stay the whole series, probably after Ragnar, Largetha and Rollo the next most important. Floki can't be long for this world either due to Ragnar's anger and how much he cared for Athelstan.
The Americans: I thought this show was great this year and it up the ante morally.
Putting the body in the suitcase, the neck lacing, the dentistry work, Philip and the teen girl ....
. It was great and icky at the same time. They've set up season 4 pretty well and I wouldn't want to be the Pastor.

I have the finale of Vikings to watch (will probably watch tonight after Ep 3 of GOT - which there has been no discussion on...?)

I really like Ragnar, he has that arrogance about him, but at the same time, very calculating (think I have said before, he reminds me of Jax)

Havent started The Americans yet.

Finished Fortitude, quite good, although the season finale finished like an episode ending, and oddly, some sources show 12 eps, but only 11 have aired.

GoT: Some big divergences from the books now which will make this series particularly interesting. The purists will be absolutely livid though. Rather disappointing that the female leads have suddenly gotten all shy about showing their goods. Maybe some of the Dornish women will make up for that.

All I can say is that Martin better hurry the fark up with writing the next book.

Is it me or the fact I watched the previous four seasons of GoT in the space of a week that the current season storyline appears to be running at a snail's pace? Enough creating a plot, more T&A and fights!

Yea it seems to be moving along slowly...I read the books a while a go, so find myself not worried if I don't recall something I see...are they running the last 2 books over 2 series?

That said, wasn't Tommen Baratheon/Lannister like 10?

You know something's up if Marjorie isn't getting them out!

George is involved with the TV show isn't he, so I expect he will be guiding them and probably getting ideas for where his books will go when he writes them 😉

A casual glance at the SOIAF forum shows that the book readers are having a bit of meltdown about the changes. To be fair it was a pretty farking major shift.

Martin is involved, but ultimately the producers are in charge.

if they had followed the books to the letter, I expect we'd be halfway through book 1 by now :)

As I said, there are bits I am like, did that happen in the books, but for the most part, not bothered, I mean if you are going to get all upset about a book adaption to screen, you probably shouldnt watch it and would probably never be happy!

One of my fave series is being made into a TV Series, I know it is unlikely to stay true to the books, but I'll still watch (also being filmed in NZ and Manu Bennett is one of the main characters)

Vikings Finale
Wasnt as good a twist as the last season finale, which I didnt really see coming, but this one a blind man could see.

I thought Ragnar knew what Floki had done, obviously not...

Lagertha the Hot has always carried a flame for Ragnar, but not sure he still loves her.

Bjorn goes on to become a great leader as well, as do all his sons I think.

I dont know anything of Rollo, but can see whats gonna happen given hes always been jealous of Ragnar, despite being fiercely loyal, until now...

As someone who read one book of the series and realised he doesn't need to read anymore it really doesn't worry me where the TV show goes as long as it remains good. These episodes have been slow, but interesting. I think Martin is more invested in the show than the books these days, otherwise he'd be writing to stay ahead, but all the interviews with him and the creators that I've read state that he's set up the skeleton of the story going forward and they're fleshing out parts of it.

Lagertha the Hot - I like it.

Rollo
Rollo is the first Norman Duke of Normandy and ancestor of William the Conqueror. I don't think he was actually Ragnar's brother is history but other than that it's playing out like it did back in the day.
GoT lurching even further away from the books. Would have to agree with the fanatics that some of it is getting a bit shit. The Sand Snakes were a bust. Not only were they crap actors, I also have absolutely no desire to see any of them naked.
