John Singleton, director of Boyz in the Hood dies after a stroke at 51.
Just heard this. Boyz was a terrific film and even my 13 year old son is a massive fan. Shaft was also damn cool. Still relatively young as well. A genuine cinematic pioneer and someone who deserves all the plaudits.

Yeah, bit of a shock. I also forgot how young he was when he directed Boyz in the Hood.
Apparently the TV show he was running, Snowfall, is pretty good. I keep meaning to watch it and never get round to it so may give it a go now.

I met him a few times years ago, my ex wife’s mate flatted with him. Nice bloke.

It’s a prick of a disease
I weirdly wish I could just hold their hand and say “it’s ok to feel low. There is ways to feel good again”
