@Tim Google tells me he is a cousin of Ma'a.
The author of that article is also the owner of the High School Top 200 website and FB page, and uses a ranking system that he says he learned in the USA, but has never been willing to explain for some reason. I'd take his opinions on, and ranking of, players with a grain of salt.

Highlanders Assistant Coach and former All Black Mark Hammett will head the New Zealand Schools team while former Tongan International Gus Ledger take charge of the New Zealand Schools Barbarians. Both teams will assemble at the end of the 1st XV season for a series of matches against Australia and Fiji in Waikato. Hammett has a long coaching CV, with roles at Canterbury, Crusaders and Hurricanes rugby, before coaching in Wales and Japan. He returned to New Zealand in 2016 to bolster the coaching teams for the Ta$man Mako and the Investec Super Rugby team, the Highlanders. He will be joined by Sam Rasch as Assistant Coach who currently leads the rugby programme at Scots College in Wellington. Canterbury’s Kevin Harding will also join the coaching team in a skill development role.Gus Ledger steps into the Head Coach role of the New Zealand Schools Barbarians and brings a wealth of age group rugby experience. The current Sacred Heart Auckland 1st XV Coach has led a number of age group teams under Super Rugby and Provincial Union flags. Does Hammett have photos or something? What in his coaching history suggests he should be given the opportunity to ruin prospective professional careers before they begin?

@antipodean If the selections are as bad as they were last year - with really good players being overlooked - then maybe he only gets to ruin the second stringers' prospective careers and not those of the best schoolboy players.
The scary reality is that now Hammett is involved with the NZ Schools teams and Philpott with the NZU20s.
Bloody hell.If they are so determined to appoint Canterbury coaches, why not appoint the good ones, instead of the worst!

Don’t feel bad - there is no quota system in SA School rugby - so coaches are allowed to pick first teams on merit. Only provincial teams and national teams from age 12 to 18 and senior levels have a quota system.
What I am saying is that our top 10 rugby schools will beat the under 18 junior springboks by 50 points or more.our number 14 and number 10 ranked schools also beat some top New Zealand Schools with big scores.
Unlike your junior all blacks and senior all blacks and all your super rugby teams - your schoolboy rugby teams actually get to play against quota free teams - so it is like playing against the springboks of the old days when springboks ruled world rugby.

New weight restricted 1R premier grade launched in Auckland schools
Auckland Rugby has launched a new premier level weight restricted competition in secondary schools to create room for even more players to flourish. The new 1R grade will extend pathways for young superstars that might have been lost within the open grades.
