Dany has shown she can be cruel and vengeful, but crazy enough to BBQ and entire city? Nah. There's subverting expectations and all that, but no way have they built up to her becoming Hitler.

Completely agree that she hasn't been "mad enough" I would have liked more of a build up or some sort of final straw,more unravelling...

I disagree in that there has been a slow burn of pressure since she went up north. Shes always been on the outer aside from Jon, and has lost troops, advisers, a lover and in the last episode her closest friend. It does feel like a big tipping point but when greyworm biffed the slave collar in the fire I reckon they both made their decision to go hard.
Far out tho, that first scene where she cooked commoners!! Ruh roh, queenie has gone cray cray

I totally get that she would happily torture or fry her allies and even former friends, but innocent civilians? That is next level insane.

If what he's saying (that he's not working on the last two books simultaneously) is true, I reckon the odd that he finishes are probably less than one in twenty. He's nearly 71, it's eight years since the last book was published and there's no sign of Book 6 hitting the shelves any time soon. What will be interesting is hearing what he's got to say about this final series - whether he'll come out and say, great job or shit job (or whether he's contractually bound to say great job) and how much of a twist his main storyline is on what happens in the TV series. I can't really believe he's planning a completely different story, with a different winner. But, if he's deciding to try to change horses midstream, that will take him even longer!

Plus she's come all this way only to find out there is someone who has a better claim to the throne and the people love him (so does she). She sees the only way to rule is to make the seven kingdoms fear her. She did a pretty good job of doing that.
Hilarious to think a whole lot of children are now named after her.

Hoollyyy shiiiit. That was f'ing nuts, what an episode - not because that's how I wanted it to go down, but because of how bloody uncomfortable it was watching a character you'd grown to love descend into the depths of resentment and evil. Just awesome, she made the Lannisters look tame.
Just on that - I don't think what Dani did was unrealistic. Targaryen's are known for their crazy, power hungry streak. She's shown that from the beginning - always lusting for power and lots of glimpses of what she'll do to get it, despite positioning herself as someone that stands up for the weak and poor. Her lack of mercy on her enemies has been pretty telling.
When the bells rung she knew her time was up. She'd lost everyone she loved bar her Dragon. She wasn't getting the throne due to Varys spreading the word about Jon. She just thought F this, if I don't get the throne nobody will and laid waste to the entire city. F'ing awesome. She also partly justified it to herself by saying she is giving mercy to future generations that would have to live under a "tyrant".
Greyworm has always been intensely loyal to Dani, and grieving Missandei (as we all were) so it's not surprising he followed suit.
The last episode is going to be very interesting, I can't pick how it will play out. Dani is done but could still look to rule through blood and fire. Jon, Tyrion, Davos, Arya, Sansa etc (all the good guys) will all want her dead. Bring it on!
It's been clear for a while this is completely different to how the books will play out, deliberately so I'd say. But I'm really enjoying it for what it is - this is the best TV series I've ever watched. It is going to be extremely tough to top in my opinion (but I've always been a fantasy geek).

@Chris-B the books (IMO) will focus far more on the Night King rather than who sits on the throne. Kings and Queens come and go, but the whole life vs death thing making all that largely irrelevant is where I think his focus will be, provided he actually writes the bloody things.

He's had heaps of time and it's bloody annoying when he's actually written other books and completed other projects. At the end of the day, people paid their money to buy his books with the expectation of a completed saga. He owes it to the fans who made this series a worldwide phenomenon to at least finish the damn books.
In terms of the actual ending, I assume that the end result will be largely the same but the road there will be vastly different. Stannis will probably be a much bigger player, Rickon will likely become Lord of Winterfell and the Blackfish will still be alive to do cool shit! It is also unlikely that the battle with the White Walkers will be decided by Ayra and her super set of plot armour.

As yet there is no Night King in the books. That's a story Bran told about a Stark who was commander of the Nights Watch and was seduced by a White Walker. Regarding Bran, I don't think he's moving from his cave and will be doing a hell of alot more than he does in the books.

@Rancid-Schnitzel My main hope is that he recognizes that he needs help to finish and hires a bunch of ghost writers to draft the chapters for him and he then plays around with editing the text, so that the story pretty much gets completed even if he doesn't perfect the dialogue to his own satisfaction.
You can watch people go through their 70s and they don't get faster. I recall reading a book about Tolkien and how little he managed to achieve after he retired from teaching at Oxford.

This season needed to hit a six in one of the final two episodes after spending most of it trying to tie up loose ends (sometimes poorly) and they did with this episode....smacked it out of the fucking park.
The good guys turned bad, the bad guys became sympathetic, we got the Cleganebowl and even Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers got burnt by the Dragon:
It feels like the writers are building to a Hamlet-esqe ending where all the main characters die in the final scene and a minor character comes in at the end and is crowned the new king/queen. So with that.... Gendry is winning the Iron throne.

I’m not sure why this is such a surprise, if you go back and look at all her previous episodes she did plenty of burning. Were masters and those who wouldn’t bend the knee (rip Sams brother and a-hole dad)
Only difference now is it’s innocent men woman and children.Maybe Drogon should be asked why he didn’t step up and say no?...

To throw you a bone, there is a rumour going around that he has both book 6 and 7 are complete, and there has been arrangement to release them after the show is complete. Probably nerd wishful thinking about book 7, but it sounds like (from other sources) at the very least book 6 isn't far away.

No way book 7 will be completed if it’s to come once 6 is published. That would be a 2035 completion date.... -

I completely disagree. Once you publish a series of books and people pay their hard earned for said books, then the writer should finish what he has promised. He has had all the time and resources available to do so. To claim he needs time to have a life is laughable. He's now living the life of Riley precisely because people have bought his books. I would also suspect he is contractually obligated by his publisher to write them.
