Write the books you fat fück and let's find out what actually happens.
If what he's saying (that he's not working on the last two books simultaneously) is true, I reckon the odd that he finishes are probably less than one in twenty. He's nearly 71, it's eight years since the last book was published and there's no sign of Book 6 hitting the shelves any time soon. His writing pace has been slowing "exponentially" and not only age, but motivation are against him. The story has sort of been told - and he's doubtless reading everyone's criticism and thinking, "Yeah, I'll fix that in the book, and that, and that", so he's going to be even more distracted...while every year his pace slows further.
What will be interesting is hearing what he's got to say about this final series - whether he'll come out and say, great job or shit job (or whether he's contractually bound to say great job) and how much of a twist his main storyline is on what happens in the TV series. I can't really believe he's planning a completely different story, with a different winner. But, if he's deciding to try to change horses midstream, that will take him even longer!
What I'm pretty disappointed with in this series is how rushed everything has been. These guys are presumably making mega-bucks out of the whole thing, so wouldn't have been hard to spin things out across two series, with a lot more character and plot development. And they would presumably have made more money.
He's had heaps of time and it's bloody annoying when he's actually written other books and completed other projects. At the end of the day, people paid their money to buy his books with the expectation of a completed saga. He owes it to the fans who made this series a worldwide phenomenon to at least finish the damn books.
In terms of the actual ending, I assume that the end result will be largely the same but the road there will be vastly different. Stannis will probably be a much bigger player, Rickon will likely become Lord of Winterfell and the Blackfish will still be alive to do cool shit! It is also unlikely that the battle with the White Walkers will be decided by Ayra and her super set of plot armour.
He doesn't owe anybody anything. He's a writer, and he's put his content out there for people to enjoy.
Just because it's popular doesn't mean he shouldn't have a life, or be able to work on other projects. He's working on it, and it will be done when it's done.
To throw you a bone, there is a rumour going around that he has both book 6 and 7 are complete, and there has been arrangement to release them after the show is complete. Probably nerd wishful thinking about book 7, but it sounds like (from other sources) at the very least book 6 isn't far away.
I completely disagree. Once you publish a series of books and people pay their hard earned for said books, then the writer should finish what he has promised. He has had all the time and resources available to do so. To claim he needs time to have a life is laughable. He's now living the life of Riley precisely because people have bought his books. I would also suspect he is contractually obligated by his publisher to write them.

She sees Jon as ruling through love (of the people) where as all she has is fear.
I’m not sure why this is such a surprise, if you go back and look at all her previous episodes she did plenty of burning. Were masters and those who wouldn’t bend the knee (rip Sams brother and a-hole dad)

Yeah that reminds me of a doco where Elton John lost his shit at some fans who dared ask him for an autograph when he was playing tennis. In one sense he does deserve privacy and all of that but the flipside is it's those very fans who fund his life of wealth and luxury.

Excellent episode. Mad Targaryen finally goes mad. Everything is lining up for Sansa as Jon goes back to the North. That or Jon ends up on the throne and Maester Aemon's words have some poignancy; 'a Targaryen alone in the world is a terrible thing'. Of course that could hold true even in Dany gets the bickies.

And it's not like they're bugging him while playing tennis (as if George would do anything remotely resembling exercise). All they're asking him to do is finish the series of books they've invested a great deal of time and money in. It's one thing if they wanted it done within a month or year, but he took 5 years between books 4 and 5 and we're now at 8 years since 5 was released. I think people have every right to complain.

Yep, fandom has become more and more toxic. Even if you have paid for it, the sense of entitlment is pretty gross. Demanding that someone spend time to finish a book is pretty infantile, IMO.
Personally, I'd rather he finish it when he's happy with it and write when has passion for it. The "fans" demanding he release it right now (stamps foot) will be the first to complain that it's not as good as they hoped.

You've paid for the books you've got. You haven't paid for the books he hasn't released. If you're complaining about the unwritten books, then it's exactly like social media - you have no entitlement.
Imagine for a second you watched John Wick and then found out the director and writer originally rough penned another two but decided for various reasons to do them when they could. Or episodes 1-3 of Star Wars...
-
@Kirwan or doesnt finish them at all...I expect the success of the TV series and his involvement with it has likely taken alot of his time and drive to finish the books...I mean if he follows the tv series with more detail is that going to satisfy fans or are they expecting the books to take a different path?

I'm astonished people feel entitled to something they haven't paid for. Well, actually I'm not astonished anymore - look how people piss and moan when social media is taken from them.
So I haven't paid for the books? Or does that not count? But other than that it's exactly the same as social media.
Or Richie McCaw wandering off 55 minutes into the RWC final, because he can't be f*cked finishing the game.
All those entitled feckers who think he should carry on just so they can gratuitously claim a bit of nationalistic glory. They're not paying his salary.
