NOBM defeated Taradale 34-29 at Tremain Field.

NOB played into a strong wind and went into halftime trailing 22-7, but made good use (mostly) of the breeze in the second half to come away with the win.

Someone needs to slap Zac Donaldson and tell him when you have the wind behind you and you are in your own half, don't tap a penalty and run (multiple times). Also when you are ahead by 5 points with 1 minute to go on the clock, and you get a penalty in front 15m out, definitely don't tap it then

@Stockcar86 So who was the better halfback? Donaldson or Sheild?

I was at the NOBMarist v Taradale game as well.

Dead right, Stockcar86, what was Donaldson thinking? The penalty with a minute left was just to the left of the posts and a successful kick would have ended the game there and then eight points in front with just enough time for a restart.

So NOBMarist knocked on the ball from Donaldson's tap kick, Taradale had the scrum close to their line, had to go the length of the field to win, and got into NOB Marist 22 when Mapu lost the ball forward in a double tackle.

Funny game. Buckley scored a good try in the corner and NOB Marist led 7-0. Then they could have had two more tries in the same left hand corner but Taradale number eight Mapu pulled off a try saving tackle in cover defence, and then five minutes later the Taradale 14 caught a NOB Marist player from behind just five metres from the line to save another.

Then with the wind behind them Taradale scored three tries in ten minutes and led 22-7 at halftime.

Second half, NOB Marist with the wind behind them scored three tries in ten minutes and led 29-22.

I liked the Taradale number eight Mapu, always gained ground with his carries and saved a certain try in the secnd half with his speed to get back first to a kicked ball over his goalline.

Stockcar86 - did you notice Brighouse was at six and Gardner at eight for NOB Marist?

Apart from his aberration with a minute left, I thought Donaldson had a good game at halfback for NOB Marist - he did a lot of the tactical kicking.

I think Shield was better while he was uninjured. He was mostly distributing and Donaldson was kicking more. Shield seemed to hurt his left arm about 25 minutes in, but stayed on till about 60th minute. Donaldson played the full game

@Number-10 yeah, Chewie at 8, Brighouse at 6 is where they should be. Did you see why Chewie got carded?. And WTF is with both touchies talking back to heckles from the spectators?

    He threw a punch.

Wasn't aware of the touchies responding to the crowd.

I was behind the goal at the scoreboard end.

    And into the real world

    Napier Technical 24 (T Farrell, E Martin, N Hemopo, J Faia tries; M Watson 2 con)
    Clive 21 (R Pohatu, C Karauria, L Udy-Johns tries; T Poto 3 con). HT: 14-0.

I have commomorated the comprehensive victory over the reigning Maddison Trophy Champions for both of us MagpieInAus. Having said that I am not looking forward to waking up in the morning with what will almost certainly be a monumental hangover!

    Quote from the HB Today

The Hastings Rugby and Sports and Napier Technical game wasn't played after a supporter connected to both clubs died after a heart attack while watching the women's final between the same two clubs earlier in the day.

Absolutely devastating news. My thoughts and prayers to the family involved.

@Higgins Actually the game was played, except for the last minute. But, yes, really sad to read that!

Edit: Oh, sorry, I misunderstood your post. The article in your post is about the women's final, which was stopped with one minute to go. I assume you were talking about the premiers game between the same clubs.

Watched my first ever game at Tamatea Park for Pirates v NOBM.

The 64 - 24 score flattered NOB who looked good with the ball, but fell off a few tackles and had some bad defensive reads.

The ref was very whistley - the game had 2 yellow and 2 red cards, evenly spread amongst both teams. From where I was standing, both the reds were for high shots, that were barely worth yellows let alone reds.

Best for Pirates were Hann (who got one of the yellows, and Lord the hooker. First time I have seen the hooker for a team take all the kicks. The number 12 for Pirates (Tyrone Dodds-Edwards) looks promising even though a bit raw - he seems to have the same size as Jordie, but better proportioned and more muscles.

NOB had quite a few of the colts/prem reserve team playing. Best was Michael Buckley on the wing and Patrick Teddy at prop. Ellery Wilson played the full game, and was quite effective, despite the Pirates subs yelling to their players to run around him as he was "old as f*ck".
