After seeing one of them partially naked in this weeks episode I can only assume you prefer males.

As for GoT, I'm officially bored with this season. No storyline seems to be going anywhere, all the boring characters are taking prominence, and this religious cult seems to have become all powerful overnight (with no ground work done to justify it).

If I recall correctly, the final book is pretty much in this vane (right vane?) plus some of the storylines diversion from the books seem pointless, hopefully the next 2 main events from the book will help get some other stuff back on track.

I have no idea, I haven't read the books aside from 90% of Game of Thrones. As such I've always watched the show as it's own distinct entity so have never bothered where they differ from the books. Hopefully you're correct though and this season will turn around.

the books completely lost their way. Everyone good was killed or marginalised, and the story basically became a chore. There is some serious repair work needed in the next one if he is to hold my interest to the end. There is an interesting piece of fantasy there, he's just completely fucking ignored it for 3-4 books. Seriously you weird old fluffybunny, bring fucking winter already.

So i am not surprised the TV series is sliding, the source material does the same. I was hoping, when i heard they were going their own way, they would fix it. instead they have cut the most interesting character arc of the whole fucking series, and the only decent bit of the last book. What a waste.

yeah the epic amount of pages on
Stannis's epic journey to nowhere
was a pain. Hope they don't focus on that in the tv series.

Some good stuff ahead though, but I wonder how much the tv is wagging the books now...

then there is the whole storyline with
Samwell and his wildling bit as they crossed the narrow seas...boring story, and they havent even done it yet.

Danaerys needs to get her dragons sorted, marry Jon Snow (so he knows something) and bring some pain!!
I do wonder if GRRRRR had some of his own alternate plotlines that he has been sharing and the TV show are running with.

The fourth book lost its way but that was just because of the characters Martin focused on. I haven't seen any of this season yet but it is no surprise to me if it has been a bit boring. The fifth book was probably the best of all the books for me. Martin absolutely let the story sprawl and the plot of Game of Thrones seems well contained in comparison. I think you are just going to be disappointed if you are reading the books or watching the TV show and hoping for a definitive conclusion. I read a fantasy book or series for the journey - in that sense the books have been great.

Yep, heaps of nudity in Mad Men. Shame there will be no more exciting plots involving Bobby trading Betty's sandwich for candy. Or Don trying to find himself for the nth time. Or Peggy getting pissed off about something. Riveting stuff.

With GoT, I just get the feeling there is way too much padding so they don't accelerate the story too quick. What made the show good in the early seasons was that it did actually have pace, but they probably overdid it slightly and are running out of runway.

Some of this seasons story arcs are glacial compared to how they would have been treated in early seasons where things moved so fast you could barely keep up without knowing the books.

I actually think most seasons have parts that are glacial but this year they just seem to have more - add to that the storylines that are moving are the ones I'm personally less interested in and it equals a disappointing season of GoT.

Just find it weird that you complain about nothing happening in one series and mourn the loss of another that for the past few years has moved at the speed of a paralysed sloth. At least one of them offers some decent TandA.

At any rate you'll find that my post was more a response to being accused of preferring to look at naked men. I must concede I was wrong and had no idea that the boyish looking sand snake had such an impressive rack. She hid that well. Still, the scene itself (like pretty much all the Dorne parts) was ridiculous.

On another topic, I was looking for something to watch on Lightbox the other day and noticed that they had the first 3 series of The Killing. I quite liked the first two although I thought the ending was a bit weak and the sometimes heavy going (and endless fucking rain) meant that I let series 3 and 4 pass me by. ( Ithink TR watched them).

Anyway, I am hooked and have been ripping through the eps. Still some frustrating parts but the acting and scripting is of top quality and now I know the style I'm not getting as frustrated by the dead ends as I see them coming. I haven't got to the end yet so hope it doesn't have a stupid twist.

I've only watched S1 & 2 of The Killing (pretty sure Tim has watched past these, and prefers the newer seasons??)...haha, yeah, the rain!!

Havent bothered with 3 & 4, not sure why, just havent...

Makes a change from the usual series where they solve a crime each episode!

Watched ep 1 of Marco Polo, will be persevering at this stage, has potential!

GOT - IMO things are moving slowly because they seem to be trying out new storylines, which is almost like starting over in some cases.
Yeah the sand snakes thing is just odd, did Sam ever get lucky, given in the books he isnt even at Castle Black is he, he and Gilly were sent away with Mance Raiders child to stop Stanner sacrificing it?? Assume that storyline has gone by the by with Stanners and Mellisandre discussing his daughter as the lamb?
Mad Men and GoT are completely different types of shows. I think Mad Men is a far better show and it's never been as plot driven as GoT - it's not always all about T&A.

I'm mourning it's loss because they both came out on a Monday, now it's gone and GoT is currently boring.
Unlike the 5th book it doesn't have anything like the scope to tell the tale. But, the 5th book leaves us with multiple cliff-hangers and the 6th book should be a cracker (the sample chapters are very good). Hopefully the 6th series will be an improvement.

I've never claimed not to be a fanboi of Mad Men - it will likely be in my top 10 shows of all time, but I've always preferred the later series' over the early ones (1 & 2 mostly I guess). Oh, and I've never liked Joan as a character either.

I would have thought it would be better to just ignore the books existence when watching the show (just in watching the show, not in general) as you'll be constantly comparing what are now two different things?

I'm not comparing them. I'm simply saying that the 5th book has set up some pretty cool cliff-hangers which sets the stage for a great 6th book. Hopefully that will be the same for the TV series.
