that's a big blow, bummer. Ireland's running into NZ or SA in the QF, and that's a damn tough game already, that is getting harder.

I want to see the best players at this RWC; we're starting to lose some. Izzy, Dmac, SOB... do we need an injury list somewhere to grieve on?

That's only three players out of twenty teams. Two actually considering one of those mentioned shoulda kept his trap shut so no sympathy there. I don't think we should be "grieving" just yet.....

Argies calling up their overseas stars. I think it's a measure of their strength in the back 3 that neither Juan Imhoff nor Santiago Cordero got chosen. Cordero in particular has had an excellent season for Exeter.

I look forward to NZ calling up Vito and Piutau. Oh...wait.

and Faumauina. And Luatua. And so on ... but as soon as we call up overseas players, you can kiss goodbye to quality rugby here in NZ. We just don't have the funds to compete with NH dollars

I don’t think I said otherwise? Would be the death of NZ rugby.

Only NH players New Zealand would consider selecting for RWC 2019 would be Luatua

#6 is a position of weakness for them with no real standout candidates

Pumas are building up their squad nicely

Jaguares are the 2nd best team in Super Rugby IMO & they're utilising young talent whilst keeping their gun players fresh

Cordero might yet sneak in Covers FB & Wing & was the best FB in England this season

Imhoff is a luxury player 31 years old, only covers wing & not played for Los Pumas in 3 years Great player but his time has passed

Tucalet Boffelli Moyano Cordero are exceptional Back 3 options to take to Japan

Add Delguy + Cancilliere & Pumas have depth as good as any nation in World Rugby

I'd have a good look at Piutau. We are missing a good utility now DMac is done, and he was outstanding before he left. Not sure he'd make it, but would have a damn good look that's for sure.

Too late for Carl Hayman to return?

Piatau is one player I'd though about but he turns 28 in October

He wont be around in 2023 for NZ so I'd invest in Bridge Reece etc
as Naholo & B Smith will be done after Japan RWC

I believe they'll bounce back strong this year

Ledesma as Pumas HC & Quesada as Juguares HC are a serious coaching ticket

TRC this year starts with NZ travelling to ARG

Hansen has already stated he won't use any players who play in Super Rugby final

That means New Zealand will LIKELY be missing:

Moody Taylor Franks Whitelock S Barrett Read Todd

                        Mo'unga Crotty Bridge Havali Goodhue

Pumas can ambush NZ minus half their starters whilst using Euro based players are trying to nail a spot in RWC squad

Pumas will be a dangerous team this season

@Jaguares4real time will tell, as I said, PUmas have not progessed as I would have hoped since they joined TRC.

It'd be great if they can press on and become a real force, more so with the hole Aussie is in (but happy if Pumas dont beat us this year πŸ™‚ )

I woulda thought Pumas would be pushing top five status by now instead of languishing at 10 in the rankings. The wins they get over SA and Aus in the 4N says as much about those two teams as it does about Los Pumas.

                              @taniwharugby

Progress has been made but more needs to be done

Ledesma & Quesada have & will continue to make a huge difference to Argentinian Rugby

This year will be a good marker for Los Pumas

Long term they'll be in good health as Kiwis & SA will be decimated with key personal playing in Europe & Japan

Jaguares have shown the way - in their last 22 regular season games they've beaten:

                              Sharks three times
                              Bulls three times
                              Stormers twice
                              Brumbies twice
                              Rebels
                              Waratahs
                              Chiefs
                              Blues
                              Hurricanes

and with a chance to beat Reds & Sunwolves within next 3 weeks

That leaves Crusaders Lions & Higlanders- 5 pt loss in Dunedin

That's an impressive list of victories once Jaguares got some competent coaching in their systems

@Jaguares4real time will tell, as I said, PUmas have not progessed as I would have hoped since they joined TRC.

It'd be great if they can press on and become a real force, more so with the hole Aussie is in (but happy if Pumas dont beat us this year πŸ™‚ )

I think that's a real risk given the form of the Jaguares and leaving a good proportion of ABs at home if they're in the Super final.

Unlike a notable Tahs supporter, i'm happy that the Jaguares are playing well. The strength of the competition requires good teams and the better the teams you play against, the higher your own standard has to become.

What Kearns is whining for is mediocrity.

@antipodean yeah we did that one other time, was it 2007 with Jerry Collins named as Captain.

@Jaguares4real key is getting them to translate it from Super to the INternaituonal scene, I am sure if you have followed super rugby, you will know that Super form doesnt always translate, I am hoping the Pumas do step up.

@Jaguares4real really hope the Jaguares form can lift the Pumas again, they have been disappointing the past few years.

They have been historically very strong at peaking for RWCs (and before entering TRC - tests against the ABs). In a pool with France and England I back them to be one of the two best sides.

@Machpants Yikes! Hopefully, we've used up our full dose of frenchies by then and don't get them in the finals!

@Stargazer I guess we'll be more used to them if/when we do pick them up in the knock outs?
