Are the times for all games essentially the same ?

I can see a monday morning off after the Aussie game might be in order.

A Day/nighter in the UK would be awesome from a NZ perspective, keeping the old match tracker going in one of the many windows I have open on the laptop.....

Just watching a warm up match between Sri Lnaka and Australia. Australia used the DRS system (correctly as it turned out after a caught behind was initially given not out) but it is just a warm up match for goodness sake!

DRS judgement is as much a part of the game now as any other skill I guess.

Yeah why wouldnt you use it....

It is just a warm up game, which presumably has not been accorded full official status, designed to get the participants involved familiar with the likely conditions they will encounter along with a bit of general match practice. Using DRS in those circumstances is a bit like using citing commissioners and TMOs is a Golden Oldies rugby match. Having said that there has been some serious rucking etc (although nothing malicious and always with great laughter and smiles) involved in Golden Oldies games as people relive times past which might justify those things!

I'd look at it the other way....its a warmup game so if you are a batsmen then you are out there to bat....bat as long as ya can...use DRS just like ya normally would. Its part of the game now

Seems either 9.30pm start or 12.30 for day/nighters (our games vs Afg, WI, Aus). Semis and final 9.30pm starts

It's a nice idea in theory but sitting through an entire ODI at stupid o'clock will probably be considerably easier said than done.

Yep far easier when it's daylight, the weather is warm and you're having a few cold ales.

Shivering with a blanket and coffee doesn't quite have the same appeal.

@nzzp it's the inning break that kills me. Not long enough for meaningful sleep, but too long to keep awake through!

@Paekakboyz I like just lying on the couch and dozing through it. Not a real deep sleep but if something exciting happens you open one eye to see if it is worth waking properly for.

I was doing that for some sport recently and dozed off and woke what I thought was a couple mins later and had a sip of beer which had gotten very warm in front of the fire. That woke me up nicely

@Higgins strange these warm up matches going out live. They've totally commercialized them with sponsorship, discounted gate fees and TV money.

Yet it's 15 a side and lots of giggles and banter between players. And absolutely nothing riding on the result - for teams it's about prep and process.

A significant swing in the contest vs entertainment spectrum of televised sport.

Drs and TV production also getting a dress rehearsal I guess. Didn't want to shell out for expensive snicko I noticed

It's been a useful excitement build up though, but these games are pretty much contrived.

The more I read this thread the more I realise there’s next to no chance I’m gonna be awake for some of the Black Caps lesser games.

I’m a grumpy enough prick when I’ve had sleep let alone when I’ve had none.

Just found out I have 2 free tickets for NZ v West Indies at Old Trafford on Saturday 22 June. And I just happen to be in England then and in Shropshire which isn't too far away. Fortuitous don't you think?

@nzzp it's the inning break that kills me. Not long enough for meaningful sleep, but too long to keep awake through!

The more I read this thread the more I realise there’s next to no chance I’m gonna be awake for some of the Black Caps lesser games.

I’m a grumpy enough prick when I’ve had sleep let alone when I’ve had none.

@MN5 Lol - I know what you mean, the challenges of the early SR rounds are like that here in Blighty! But just line up 3 cups of triple-shot javas and you will be raring to go!

Yeah not sure........even an intense ODI during sociable hours can often be broken up with a few errands....chores.....beer runs etc. Cricket being Cricket you don't know how good a game will be til you actually sit down and watch it ( well this is true of any sporting event really )

Perhaps Wadds and Mantis can keep me company on the wireless in bed instead.

Christ that sounds creepy and sad written down like that.

I'm still gonna need evidence. Loads of posts talking up Jesse Ryder as potentially our best batsman ever will be a good start. Also chronic whinging about Brad Haddin as the worst human being since Hitler won't go amiss either.

Also don't forget to whinge about any/all of:

                                          • Tim McIntosh comparing himself to Virender Sehwag
                                          • Southee's batting not kicking on after his 77 off 40 on debut against England
                                          • Fleming's conversion ratio
                                          • McCullum not taking a couple to get his eye in against Starc in the 2015 CWC final
