So Seffrica's tournament in a little bit of trouble

    309-8 chasing 330-6.

    Oh and two start.

And losing to Bangles. Surely that's must win?

They are no easy beats any more. Spanked us over there in a series I think, and have taken almost all top scallops in the last few years. Good for them, it's taken a while but they have improved substantially

SA have India next up, so could be 0-3 and staring down the barrel of another embarrassing CWC.

However, they haven't lost that third game yet and even if they do, it's possible Bangladesh could be a force at this tournament in which case maybe we lose to them this week as well. Losses to them and likely semi finalists England and India across nine matches if they win enough of their other games, wouldn't be the end of the world.

Yeah, it would. Realistically to make the playoffs you are going to need to win at least five of your nine games. Six will guarantee you a berth but you can get in with five and a good net run rate. South Africa are lucky that they haven't lost by large margins. However, they have still lost two games and can only afford to lose one more in the whole tournament. If they lose to India, they probably need to win eight games in a row to be world champions. If they have a loss in there, then they will be relying on some big wins. South Africa are already at $5.50 to even reach the semi final.

Bangladesh are ranked above Sri Lanka and the Windies by a long way. They are a good ODI side, although they don't travel well. You would expect South Africa to beat them in England though.

You have to ask some questions of South Africa. Why is Morris even there? Why has Philander not got a look in? South Africa seem to produce another quality pace bowler every time you look but for some reason Morris is still in the ODI team.

More like losing to Scotland - but, it's hugely damaging to their tournament chances.

According to me, the top three teams are England, Australia and India.

Then there's NZ, SA, Windies (who look much better than their ranking suggests).

Bangladesh and Pakistan a bit further back (though I might be underestimating the Bangles and overestimating Pakistan).

Then Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, who are "absolutely must win" points.

Dropping any points to the bottom four are costly, because obviously you've got to make up those points elsewhere - against the good teams.

Of course, it's also being held in England and Wales, so rain is surely going to play a role. If the Jaapies get games washed out they need them to be vs India and Oz. Really can't afford any washouts against the other lower ranked teams now!

Not to mention run rate being a factor too. Personally I reckon we should be number one instead of the Windies who lost three wickets chasing their small total as opposed to us losing none.

Another question is "Why so many old men"?

Tahir, Amla, Steyn, Duminy, Faf - they're all 35 or older. Well, Faf isn't quite 35, but he will be by the time the tournament ends.

Add in Morris, who's 32, and looks like wishful thinking.

They're at the end of a golden generation, now facing a (batting) talent cliff.

Surfacing first in ODIs. Their bowling still makes them a potent test team.

Not making the semis would be expected this time, wise after the fact, although they're probably going to go down in more flames than predicted

They have no batters. And tbh only 1, Rousouw, has kolpaked himself.

                        It’s not rugby @Chris-B 😀

Depth in SA cricket has been an issue for some time, so there’s no real pressure being put on some of these established players. All good players in their own right, but sometimes selection pressure can add to performance.

We got a pattern of poorly run and corrupt associations with weak teams, regardless of their historical successes, by the looks of it.

Sri Lanka, south Africa, Pakistan, Zimbabwe .

Windies been there for the past 2 decades, good to see that worked itself out, seemingly.

There's some causation there I reckon

Great start from Pakistan. It goes without saying that 300 is the minimum par score.

Pakistan are playing quite sensibly. They aren't trying to put the hammer down after their good start.

This is a very different match to the warm up series (by both sides)

Are you watching a delayed broadcast? That was 10 overs ago.

Pakistan giving themselves every chance of a decent score here. Run rate over 6 with 18 overs left and 8 wickets in hand.
