That should be a try from Mua. No knock-on.

Try awarded. They took their time.

      Reihana converts.

Full time: New Zealand 45 - 13 Georgia

Average first half from NZ, better second. Game plan adjusted in the second spell.

Stand-outs for me were the Newell - Kereru-Symes combo; Finau impressive; defensively Flanders very good. Norris the weakest link in the frontrow, giving away a few scrum penalties.

Second half, more a game for the backs, with particularly Fainga'anuku and Tupaea good. Some good work from McLeod, too. Funaki definitely better than Carter. Still not convinced by Reihana. His in-game kicking is very average.

NZ may struggle against better opponents, but it's a good start of the tournament.

Well that was a good follow up win over England after the GS. 6 tries to 3 helped by a England numbskull making the stupidest attempt to throw off an Irish player and landing him on his head/neck with 10 mins to go.

This is how helpful the referee appointments page from WR is: https://officiating.worldrugby.org/index.php?page=appointments&id=108
So not helpful at all, but I found out via the referee net website that the last three on the list are the TMOs.

The ref was Andrea Piardi from Italy.
Rasta Rasivhenge was one of the ARs; no idea who the other AR was.
The TMO did sound Argentinian, so I assume it was Santiago Borsani.

@Stargazer I noticed there was a yellow card along with a red card given out in every game..Gee whiz hope it’s not in danger of the officials becoming the star attractions.

Positives : Newell was outstanding and Finau impressive. Thanks to Funaki who upped the pace, the backline fared better during the second half.
Negatives : the scrum (but these Georgians are particularly beefy up front). The NZ props struggled for the whole game but was it their entire fault ? I guess they did not benefit from a massive support from their diminutive locks. The size of the second row could be a problem versus the big nations.
The lack of power in the second and back rows is a big problem. The driving is done exclusively by the props which is exhausting for them.
The lack of speed in midfield is worrying too.

Odd refereeing, to say the least. No grounding for the first Irish try, dubious onside for the second, blatant offside before the incident which brought the red card ...

Except they all thought there was a grounding. They checked offside for diving on ball once it went back over line and possible offside before Balbreary decided to upend Allison onto his neck is irrelevant to the action.

Certainly not. The offside led to the ruck where the incident brought the red card. If this offside had been whistled, then the ensuing ruck would not have taken place and so, not incident for the red card ...

                                          Teams for NZ v Scotland (Sun 9 June 2019, kick-off 6.30am NZT):

                                          New Zealand Under-20s:
                                          1 George Dyer, 2.Shilo Klein, 3.Kaliopase Uluilakepa, 4.Taine Plumtree, 5.Tupou Vaa'I, 6.Kaylum Boshier (captain), 7.Jeriah Mua, 8.Simon Parker, 9.Taufa Funaki, 10.Ferg Burke, 11.Etene Nanai Seturo, 12.Quinn Tupaea, 13.Billy Proctor, 14.Lalomili Lalomilo, 15.Scott Gregory.

                                          Substitutes:
                                          16 Kianu Kereru Symes, 17.Ollie Norris, 18.Tamaiti Williams, 19.Fletcher Newell, 20.Cullen Grace, 21.Samipeni Finau, 22.Kohan Herbert, 23.Devan Flanders, 24.Leroy Carter, 25.Rivez Reihana, 26.Dallas McLeod, 27. Cole Forbes, 28.Leicester Faingaanuku.

                                          Scotland Under-20:
                                          1 Andrew Nimmo, 2.Rory Jackson, 3.Will Hurd, 4.Ewan Johnson, 5.Ross Bundy, 6.Jack Hill, 7.Teddy Leatherbarrow, 8.Kwagga van Niekerk, 9.Murray Scott, 10.Nathan Chamberlain, 11.Jack Blain, 12.Robbie McCallum, 13.Rory McMichael, 14.Lomond MacPherson, 15.Ollie Smith.

                                          Substitutes:
                                          16 Ewan Ashman, 17.Murphy Walker, 18.Euan McLaren, 19.Mak Wilson, 20.Cameron Henderson, 21.Marshall Sykes, 22.Tom Marshall, 23.Roan Frostwick, 24.Connor Boyle, 25.Ross Thompson, 26.Grant Hughes, 27.Cameron Anderson, 28.Matt Davidson.

As I predicted, rotation, rotation, rotation. This, unfortunately, means that some of the few players who stood out in the first game, have now been named on the bench, although the backline includes some of the best players (at 11-15). But, Gregory at fullback? Has he ever played there?

Scotland looked good in their first game against South Africa (big and physical), despite their loss, so it's probably going to be a tough game.
