Munros unbeaten 50 will piss his haters off massively. I'm picking at least two more decent scores to push his claims then everyone will get to say they told us so when he shits the bed in a semi ( provided we make it which is less than guaranteed despite our amazing start )

Have a look at the batting averages of all of the openers being used in this tournament.

There's a couple of outliers averaging over 50 - both Pakistanis, an Afghani, Shai Hope.

Most of the best players are in the mid to high 40s. Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Quentin de Kock, Hashim Amla, Davey Warner, Johnny Bairstow. There's quite a few of them.

Almost all of the others are in the low 40s or very high 30s - Jason Roy, Martin Guptill, Chris Gayle, Aaron Finch.

Then a few mid-30s - both Bangladeshis are around 36. The two Sri Lankans are 36 and 35. The more experienced Afghani averages 34.

And down below them is Colin - averaging 26 and not much more taking his stats purely as an opener.

Wow, he genuinely is a weak link then when you take that into consideration.

Part of the reason they've persisted with him is his domestic stats are pretty out of this world. 51 first-class average at a strike rate of 98. 36 List-A average striking at 112. The guy can smack seven shades of shit out of it when he gets going; it just appears that to date he only has the ability to get going against the weaker attacks. Put him up against the Aus attack and he has no other style of play to fall back on so gets badly found out.

I’ve used that very argument on here myself ( incidentally I had no idea those strike rates were that good, wow ) but the counter is always his technique, or lack of, at the highest level.

Do we have to accept he’s a NZ version of Graeme Hick or Mark Ramprakash?

It would appear to be so. If we play anyone decent cue Colin folding like a deck chair in a gale

Jaapies start cautiously against India, but it doesn't help Amla against Bumrah who goes for a cheap 6 runs. Then Faf French cuts his first ball for four - very lucky not to chop on, which would be close to "game over" very early in the piece.

Bumrah must be a nightmare to face with that staccato run-up and then the pace from the whip of the arm.

de Kock gone cheaply as well - caught in the slips. 24/2

Not showing much steel - Steyn-less steel. No Ngidi either.

        Where's my coat! 🙂

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Everything about Bumrah is wrong.

His action says "first change for the 2s" but he's a gun. The speed gun says late-130s but he has even the best batsmen jumping around. Just wrong.

A brief resurgence from the Jaapies - but, now the spinners are taking them apart.

                  89/5

The one from Chahal that got Van der Dussen looked like it actually swerved to leg and spun back. VdD was looking to reverse sweep, but he was done like a dinner.

Windies finally get a ball on target and Finch edges it

It's either 5 wides, a jaffa to get rid of Finch, a massive wide over the batsman's head, or Khawaja getting sconed. A brilliant lottery!

This Oshane Thomas is more than handy.

He's making things happen. Gets Finch with a beauty and then smacks Khawaja in the head.

                        Big boy bowling heavy balls!

Brilliant catch. The Windies pace attack is a nostalgic 80's throwback so far.

Great catch. Looking a bit like the Windies of old. Some real intimidation factor.
