The previous highest number of abandoned games in a World Cup was two, in 1992 (Australia) and 2003 (South Africa). We are now at 4.

Two games were abandoned in 2015 also. Aus/Bangladesh due to rain and the NZ skipper abandoned the final on the third ball of the match.

    You mean at the toss?

It still haunts me today that we chose to bat when our number one strength in that tournament was Trent Boult. Letting him at the Aussies when it was hooping around would have put them on the back foot to begin with. Grrr.

Is it wet this time of year in England? Would it have been better to play it later in the summer?

@No-Quarter I heard on the radio they usually have on average about 10mm of rain this time of year, and in the past week they had had over 100mm...

At the time i didn't hate the decision. Had we scored 300 they would have been under enormous pressure. And there was no reason not to think our top order was capable of that.

Aussies bowled beautifully, and we cracked. Simple as that. Fuckers.

Yep, I agree with this. Runs on the board in the finals are good, and we'd batted well all tournament. BMac didn't change his approach, but some people really climbed into him ... despite him smashing opening bowlers all over the park previously

also, I think it looks like of the 11 finals, 7 have been won by the team batting first (and that was 7/9 before 2011 and 2015)

Maybe the BCCI have got something teed up for their team shortly after the CWC (not forgetting the three weeks break they would insist on too!)

I was worried as hell about Starc in that tournament, he was in the form of his life and tearing teams apart; including us in the round robin. Letting him have first crack meant we were always going to start on the back foot, and Aussie ruthless as they were never took their foot off our throat.

Sure it probably wouldn't have mattered overall, but at least if Boult had been given the ball we could have put them under the pump to begin with. As it was Boult was largely nullified as they just blocked him out given the small total they were chasing.

Grrr.

At the time i didn't hate the decision. Had we scored 300 they would have been under enormous pressure. And there was no reason not to think our top order was capable of that.

Aussies bowled beautifully, and we cracked. Simple as that. Fuckers.

They were relentless in that match. Starc, Johnson, Hazelwood, they just kept coming and we didn't have a weaker bowler to try and exploit

From memory we pulled it back with a couple of promising partnerships but that medium gay but not actually gay medium pacer took a few crucial wickets.
The Hairy Javelin was magnificent in both the Semi (especially) and the I’ll fated final.

Sitting in the stand I couldn't believe it. Nothing better to settle finals nerves than to field a bit. If you take an over to settle down so be it. If you don't settle down when you bat you are out

For starters this weather is unusual. Looking like wettest June in record.

I can honestly say I find it drier in London these days than Wellington.

100% agree with this, English weather generally has a massively unwarranted bad rep. Maybe its changed in the last generation due to climate change or whatever, but certainly away from the west of the country its pretty dry. Around London, and up near Cambridge where I live, it rains less than in NZ I reckon. The whole "shit UK weather" thing is like "shit UK food" - a stereotype about 30yrs out of date now.

That said, the weather this June has been about as consistently awful (and across the whole country) as I can remember in 15 years living here.

That is true. I had some great Pizzas, Curries, Kebabs, Chinese and paella’s in London.

I’m sure the mushy peas and fish and chips have gotten better too.

For starters this weather is unusual. Looking like wettest June in record.
A few weeks back the weather was great.
I can honestly say I find it drier in London these days than Wellington.
But yeah, it’s really shit at the moment and I wish the good stuff would come back

@TeWaio well yeah if you don't venture out of the UK or Brits abroad spots, the food is perfectly adequate.

Like I said, the food I had was exemplary.

The fact none of it was "english" was an unfortunate ( or maybe fortunate ) coincidence.
