Quoting myself here, but it cracked me up when I read this in an episode recap of yesterday's show in 'The Atlantic' (this show mumbles so much I am trying to make sure I actually understand what is going on)

I definitely have to use subtitles, even if I listen on my Sennheiser HD 650s.
 
This season has been a bit average, but the latest episode was very good. A big step up.
 
It seems like he's been going for a Michael Mann Heat atmosphere, but that kind of minimal dialogue and very deliberate characterisation is rather difficult. I don't think it's a coincidence that the best episode so far was the one with the best plot developments and the least reliance on atmosphere and actors carrying a scene.

Best music so far was from the closing credits of episode one. Nick Cave's cover of All the gold in California is pretty, pretty ace.

Crucial

While it's hard to blame VV for some of the truly awful dialogue he is provided with, his performances show a casting decision gone too far. I get the concept of taking actors with 'light' track records and giving them the chance to show their acting chops but VV just isn't convincing to me. He has one expression and it's the same one he uses in everything he is ever in, serious or silly. 
For McAdams, it works. Her character and lines may be a bit stupid at times but I enjoy the change in seeing her act properly without hamming. Kitsch seems to try way too hard.

Yeah, while Farrell is good and keeps getting better, it's a long fucking way from McConaughey and Harrelson.
 
This is kind of like the second album blues - Pizollatto probably spent his whole adult life coming up with the characters, background, atmosphere, and plotting of season one. This year everything is new, and he probably wants to look like he's more than just that one scenario.
 
Anyway, good fucking episode. Things are looking up.

So, i finally got around to watching GoT Season 5 (my fucking Foxtel box blew up, taking all my recordings with it).
 
It's, um, not that good aye? But then, having read the books, i wasn't surprised, i had a bit of a rant about it on the Book Club thread
 
[spoiler]So, i understand they had to start making their own story lines, given old mate takes 12 years to write a book, but did they have to make some of them worse? 
The whole Dorn thing was fucking stupid, and i felt dirty looking at that nude chick in the jail because she looks 16. 
The whole "Jon Snow isn't really dead" thing better come to pass, because he is about the only decent character left. 
The religious thing in Kings Landing is fuuucking stupid. In the books it seems that the powers that be use it more as a convenience (Tommen being a little kid, and it being a good way to get rid of people) but the TV show made it look like they ran the fucking city? WTF? And what the fuck happened to the Queen? 
Thank christ the Stannis storyline is dead, my god what a fluffybunny. And for a military genius, he's a fucking retard. I did enjoy looking at the witch naked though, so i hope she's not done with yet. 
The writers ow have the chance to do what ever they want with the story, they better not fuck it up, and they better fucking go somewhere in the next series. 
But, for all that, it was worth it for the Hardhome battle, and finally getting to watch a dragon cook some motherfuckers. 
The whole thing hasn't gone to shit, but this was the first season where i found myself looking at my phone while it was on. There is a pretty cool story building there if they get rid of the shitty subplots. [/spoiler]

I am looking forward to seeing one of my favorite series of Novels being bought to life...starting with the 2nd book (chronologically as published) 
Has a very LOTR feel to it, which I guess for the genre isnt surprising as many fantasy novelist probably were inspired by Tolkein. 
On the FB feeds has been a fair bit of angst among fans about various things, mostly about it being done by MTV, but also some of the casting...but what I've seen to date, I'm happy.

I'm currently watching Manhattan which is great - I think on the recommendation of one of you fools. 4 episodes to go, I've had to stop myself from doing any reading to find out what/who is real or not. 
 
M4L - glad I wasn't the only one who thought the religion stuff was f-ing stupid. As for the chick in the jail, she looked about 5 years older than Emilia Clarke at least.

Bones

Anyone watching Ballers? Liking it so far, would recommend. Starring Dwayne Johnson. "A series centered around a group of football players and their families, friends, and handlers."
 
Have also started watching Zoo. Bit crappy, but an easy watch. "A young scientist searches to find out what's causing a rash of violent animal attacks."
 
Also watched the first episode of Humans, not too sure about that one, but will watch another couple and see. "In a parallel present where the latest must-have gadget for any busy family is a 'Synth' - a highly-developed robotic servant that's so similar to a real human it's transforming the way we live."
 
Also don't mind watching the odd Bojack Horseman when on the train. Not that great, but gets the odd laugh.
 
Oh yeah I might be late to the party but just started on Ray Donovan too, seems pretty good (only watched the pilot). Same goes for Silicon Valley.

Torn on that, lovede that series as a kid, but now I'm so used to Abercrombie & Martin & seeing good guys disembowled & so on I'm not sure I'd be anywhere near as keen on it now. I feel like it needs to be "realistic" like GoT, or cartoon madness (Spartacus). And either way have tits & violence.
 
Same deal with Terry Goodkinds stuff, I fucking loved that way back when & then they made that series Legend of the Seeker and holy batshit that was terrible. This stuff is really hit (GoT) and miss (Seeker), miss (Under the Dome), huge fucking miss (Camelot), miss (Sinbad), miss (Atlantis), etc for me. 
 
And Camelot had Eva Green naked & it still sucked balls. Eva Green naked & it still sucking is the movie / TV equivelent of open heart massage in ER. Its like "well we just cracked his chest & manually massaged his heart & that didn't work, so he is dead as fuck"

Yeah, I feel they need to go the Primeval route & make it Sunday afternoon at 5pm telly for the kids. Tho' that was sort of the idea with Seeker.

Just started reading Shannara with TR Jnr, so I am all good with the lighter side of it...sometimes it is cool to have some lighter viewing, and even better if I can watch it with the kids!
 
I started Ray Donovan, but tired of it quickly.

But it was good enough it didn't need them.
 
In contrast The Dreamers, an attrocity of a film, so she spent the entire movie buck naked in a valiant attempt to rescue it. I feel like she reads scripts & goes "ok, this is fucking awful, I should be naked" & the director goes "wow, thanks, I know its shithouse but I had no idea how to make it better"
 
Shes like a british Mila Jovavich. 5th Element? This is actually pretty good, I'll stay mostly clothed. Stone? I'm going to need to be naked for most of this or people will just walk out.

I've caught up now and watched all the episodes, I was wrong about Farrell and he's been great imho particularly the scene where the cop dragged him back into the investigation. MacAdams is hot , probably hotter when shes running around with a gun. I'm tempted to start fast forwarding the scenes with Vaughan and his wife but she's not shy about nudity so I'm not 100% on that yet.

I too think Farrell has gotten better as the season as gone on - I thought his cliched cop was pretty awful for the first two episodes but he's definitely changed up. I also think Kitsch has gotten better too. McAdams is hot - too much smoking though.
 
I think Vaughn without the wife is fine, but whenever the two of them are in a scene it becomes a different show that's a massive handbrake. I don't get the Vaughn hate TBH (it seems manufactured and pre planned from a lot of critics), I don't think of him as a comic character in this which would be the issue, but he's played non light comedy roles in the past. 
 
Still the worst actor and character for me is the Mayor! He's horribly over acting. 
 
I actually thought the last two episodes of the show were quite good as well.
