I wouldn't blame Jordie for leaving. His development seems to have stalled at the Canes. He definitely hasn't looked like AB quality this year.

How is that other lock rehabbing? Torn biceps or pec muscle? He was outstanding for the Canes last year and would be better than Scranton.

@Chris Yes that is the guy. I think since coming to the canes he has made significant improvement and provided a lot of grunt to the pack. Had the ability to hold up guys in the tackle too.

Result of today's game:

Blues U18 20 - 10 Hurricanes U18

Coping with underfoot conditions reminiscent of Test Match Rugby at Murrayfield and a high-penalty count, proved too challenging for a spirited Hurricanes Under 18 team, who were defeated by the Blues Under 18 side by 20 points to 10, at Owen Delaney Park in Taupo today.

In a stop-start game played in windy and chilly conditions, the Blues took a 10 point to 3 lead into the half-time break. After 65 minutes the teams were locked at 10 all, but in the last 10 minutes the Blues scored a converted try and a penalty-kick (on the full-time whistle) to win the match.

For the Hurricanes, Treyah Kingi-Taukamo (St. Kentigern's College) kicked a penalty and conversion, with the team's solitary try scored by full-back, Rodderick Solo (Scots College).

Future stars on show at Hurricanes tourney

The Oval and the Rectory are the places to be from Monday for the Hurricanes Youth Rugby Council under-16 tournament.

Division A teams will compete for the Don Broughton Shield; Division B, featuring Poverty Bay and East Coast, the Saracens Cup.

The Bay, led by Anaru Paenga-Morgan, will have a Pool 2 game against Horowhenua-Kapiti on Oval No.2 at 12.30pm, Monday, followed by a non-competition game versus Wanganui at the Rectory at 11am on Tuesday.

There is a skills day for all teams on Wednesday and finals are on Thursday.

In Pool 1 of Division B, the Hewa Ruha-led East Coast play Wanganui on Oval No2 at 2pm on Monday, then Wellington Development on Oval No.2 at 11am on Tuesday.

“It’s fantastic to host an event like this. The rugby at this level is pure; many of the stars come through,” said Poverty Bay Rugby Football Union chief executive officer Josh Willoughby.

“This is the first opportunity for players to be seen by regional and national selectors under Hurricanes recruitment and development manager Darren Larsen. Beaudein Waaka (Poverty Bay/Taranaki) was the player of the tournament the last time the tourney was held here. This is a good measure of how things will look at representative and first 15 level for the next two to three years. We’d like to thank the Hurricanes YRC chaired by Gordon Noble-Campbell for their investment and leadership.”
