@Rancid-Schnitzel No, I torrent a lot of obscure stuff. Will have to check it out.

I'm just trying to work out how to use it/how much it costs. It's all a bit sketchy.

    Alison on Prime (Amazon)

A particularly hard watch about Alison Botha who in 1994 'was abducted, raped, stabbed and left for dead by Frans du Toit and Theuns Kruger.

They slashed her throat so deeply she had to hold her own head on as she crawled to the road for help. With her other hand she had to hold in the organs spilling from her stomach, where she had been stabbed more than 30 times.'

    Somehow she lived.

No Retreat No Surrender. Van Dammes first role (as an evil kickboxing Russian).

So shit it's awesome. My youngest loved it. Kid gets beaten up and goes to Bruce Lee's grave to ask for his help. The Ghost of Bruce then shows up and trains him.

    Legendary.

Recommend with this were a few other gems like Final Impact and Best of the Best (Eric Robert's finest hour).

I used to hire that from the video store at least once a month before I figured out how to, ahem, dub videos. Bloodsport, American Ninja and Kickboxer were also favourites.

That homo erotic 80s workout montage puts Rocky and the Karate Kid to shame.

I’m off to do some one arm push ups. ( seriously )

The scene with the black dude eating an ice cream while sitting on the other guy's stomach is unarguably the gayist scene of the 80s and that says something. There was a heap of competition

But you miss Jean Claude's 3 lines of unintelligible dialogue. And when he headbutts a fat guy.

Fixed in case we get accused of fat shaming.

Throw in Sho Kosugi in Enter The Ninja and Revenge of the Ninja and that sounds like me and my mates as teenagers.

Watched Wrong Bet (Lionheart) last night. Boys loved it. But they always love the action films from the 80s and early 90s. There must be something that modern filmmaking has lost. We can argue that it's a nostalgia thing for us, but when a 14 and 11 year who usually have the attention span of a goldfish and have endless films and series on demand can consistently be engrossed in and enjoy these films, then there must be something there.

    Elizabeth: The Golden Age

Cate acts. Clive Owen's Sir Walter Raleigh is about as convincing as my high school proof of Fermat's last theorem. Geoffrey Rush is as wooden as the CGI ships. It seems the director started taking acid or was replaced three-quarters of the way through.

One for people who like their period pieces high on over-acting and adorned with gowns and light on timing and facts.

Two beheaded Catholics out of five destroyed armadas.

There’s definitely something in that. My boys love Indiana Jones and Bond for the same reason despite some at times pretty shit and dated SFX.

I wanna do the Alien/Prometheus series with them but the ex wife said they’re too young and in the interest of keeping the peace I’ll agree....for now.

Watched Ghostbusters 1 & 2 with the boy in the weekend.

Just awesome. Plenty of great one liners, those guys were cool as fuck. And I have to say the FX are actually not too bad considering the first one was made in bloody 1984! The acting is so different in old movies like that as well, just seems more raw, like they do one take and then move on.

4.5 Slimers out of 5 Ectomobiles

It really is a travesty that they butchered the remake so badly, I just read that it lost $125 million - ouch!!

The original was close to perfection. The cast, the story, the mix of comedy and horror. I absolutely loved it as a kid and my boys are also big fans.

I couldn't even watch all of the remake. It was truly horrible. The worst possible way to reboot the Franchise. I cannot believe Sony genuinely believed this was the best way to maximize the value of this brand.

    @MN5

Same. Haven't watched Bond with them but Indy is a big favourite. I think I might also give those Cannon Ball run films a go. I remember them being pretty damn funny.

Bill Murray was fantastic as were the others at times but to me Ghostbusters hasn’t aged as well as other 80s flicks. @No-Quarter did you seriously think the sfx were ok even for 1984?

Well my expectations for the movies in general were incredibly low, I didn't think it was too bad at all. Wiki tells me it won an award for best visual effects as well.
