Finally saw the new Mad Max. Not much in the way of plot or dialogue, but visually stunning, a pure propulsive adrenaline rush with a lot of violence. 8.5/10 The guitarist alone was worth the price of admission.

The missus watches Home and Away. While the quality at the moment isn't as high, the honour role at Summer Bay is outstanding, some serious TV hotties have been through that joint. And as it's set on a beach, they are often not wearing much.

Kiwis; good if you need a russian, or anyone brown for Cliff Curtis (South American? Arab? no worries, them brown folks all look the sames to us anyways). Aussies are good if you need talent-less, charisma-less action leads (I'm looking at you Jai Courtney and your mate the brickie, what's his name? Worthington?)

The Room (2003).
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Room_(film)

Had no idea about the history of this film when I started watching which made it even better. The ultimate "so shit it's good film". This film is almost impossibly bad. Astonishing. -

There was a thread on Reddit yesteday asking for worst film you'd ever watched.

That was the top pick by far.
-

Have you seen it? I consider myself lucky that I had no idea about the film when I started watching it. I've seen school plays with better acting and the lead actor (who is also the writer, director, producer, etc.) is something to behold. It's questionable whether he's even human. -

Yes, and play football in a tuxedo!

Oh hi Johnny. -

I watched the new Mission Impossible movie yesterday. It's good. Not as relentless as the last one (Ghost Protocol), which was massive. The new one, Rogue Nation, didn't seem as big but still a great watch on the big screen.

Also saw Straight out of Compton. That's a really good movie, mainly due to the casting in my opinion. Ice Cube's son plays Ice Cube and it's absolutely spot on. I guess my main concern with it is that it clearly goes a little easy on the characters who were involved in producing- Cube, Dre and Eazy-E's (via his widow). One thing for sure, I don't ever want to meet Suge Knight, that is one scary, crazy dude.
-

I'm looking forward to seeing Straight Out of Compton, but I don't think it comes out until September. (Which is annoying as I have $10 movie tickets in August so I'm trying to see a bunch).

The Man from UNCLE: This was a bit odd, I was sitting in the theatre watching this and everyone in there aside from me and my two mates were finding it to be the most hilarious thing ever. It was a bit funny in parts, but it was actually fairly slow moving and TBH if it didn't have Alicia Vikander in it then it would have been a lot less watchable.

But Superman was better in this than Superman and the Lone Ranger wasn't too bad, but there was something about it that didn't work - I don't think Guy Ritchie's style suits movies that aren't like Lock Stock or Snatch.
-

Furious 7.

It has 82% on Rotten Tomatoes. I can only assume that every critic was given a toke on a huge bong before watching it, because fark me if it wasn't one of the worst-acted, over-the-top movies I've ever seen. I would be surprised if 5% of the stunts in it were physically possible, and the cheesiness of the plot lines was truly something to behold.

What was the point of Kurt Russell? All involved, then suddenly out of it? The hacker just happens to have a 10/10 body? The race scene with all the chicks with tatts in hot bodies dancing around for no real reason? The way that Staham was taken out was just plain lame, and then him surviving the crash to mutter his one liner to his missus (whose clearly a dyke, why can't he notice this?), I mean seriously, what a pile of crap.

Fucking good movie though, really enjoyed it.....
-

As a service to the Fern I watched Hitman: 47 at the cinema last night. It was ok, it had some good action scenes in the modern style of real quick fighting (which I can tire of sometimes), with some decent shootouts, and it had a semblance of a plot.

Good Jeremy Renner was fine, basically just playing an ultra souped up version of his Homeland character (when he first arrived) and the Chinese chick Gollum mentioned was in about 3 scenes. I assume she is in more scenes in the version that plays in China. The actual female lead was from the tv show Boss but with an English accent which sounded a bit weird.

I can't remember the first Hitman too well, I think I likely enjoyed it while watching it but forgot about 5 minutes later, and this is the same.
-

Tons of people were watching it on my flight from Singapore. I was actually getting angry at how fucking retarded it looked.

And on that note, they're making a new xXx movie. :-/
-

My thing with the Furious movies is yes, on day one of filming they punch the laws of physics in they face and kick them off the set, but they know they are making wildly unrealistic popcorn action flicks, and just have fun with it. They require a huge suspension of belief to get through any of it, but they are pretty damn watchable. In no way do they take themselves seriously.

Tim, a fan of 80s action like yourself shouldn't have that much of a problem with them.

I haven't seen the 7th, and by all accounts they ramp up the "what the...?" but it's going to be hard to top the 50km long runway from the last one (or most of the shit with the tank), or some of the shit from the 5th one (like you can drive a car off a 100m cliff, and you'll be alright if you jump out of the car 20m from the water. Or the fucking bank vault that killed 100 bystanders).
