Can you say something about this match-up?

Did Marino M-T play? Also, it has been a very long time since I saw his twin brother play; how do you rate Antonio? Is he a realistic Magpies prospect?

Fakatava and Shields play very different styles. Shields is all about the distribution game, and speed to the ruck. Fakatava when he came on tried to create opportunities himself as well (and was quite successful)

Marino did not play (unless he came on late and I did not see it). I'm assuming it was Antonio who was playing in the midfield for Hastings. He was a strong runner, willing to take on the defence.

Overall the game was very close, with HRS only scoring a try in the corner a couple of minutes from the end to seal the game.

The forward packs were fairly evenly matched - alternately one scrum winning a penalty, then the other side doing the same.

I liked Toala at 10. Even if he does not play there for the Magpies, it is good to know there is another player in the backline with a good tactical kicking game, who can get good distances from clearance kicks.

The final should be a great game - looking forward to it.

@Stockcar86 Thanks! Last year, they streamed the final; I wonder whether they'll do it again this year? Not keeping my hopes up, but it would be great.

Looks like golden oldies scrums in the second half. Unusual to see these days with so many front row reserves

@Stockcar86 yep that’s certainly true , they just always seem to be injured because they are not yet quite adapted for that level. Only 1 or 2 should ever be looked at. when there are already sufficient HB players eligible already in the bay. If anything apprentices should be around the 21- 25 age group. Also keeping our Colts teams full and experienced far better rugby learning also ,building themselves up actually playing club rugby is the way to go . Selectors need to be out watching. Young men going away to travel and play also as holistically they are learning and growing as better Rugby players.

Taradale and Manu Samoa flanker Iakopu Mapu has been named in the Manumā Samoa training squad (that's the tentative name for the Samoan team that will participate in Rapid Rugby). He was close to Magpies selection earlier this year. I wonder whether this means he's not going to play for a spot in the 2020 Magpies squad?

@stockcar86 I would love to advise Stockcar86 of the result in the 20/20 match between NTOB CC and his combined NHSOB-Marist CC outfit played on Friday night but this is a club rugby forum so am sort of prevented from bringing up the 103 run win to the NTOB CC Premiers. Nevertheless I must acknowledge the great effort by the way NHSOB-Marist managed to bat out their 20 overs losing just eight wickets in the process!
