    2019 Chiefs U18 Squad

Where's the St Paul's 2nd 5 Temple Beauchamp? He looks as good as any midfielder I've seen in Chiefs country this year.

Maybe he has been poached by another franchise. A pity if true.

William Guthrie is one to watch, usually a midfielder.

Seems as if they found ways to get the players they want on the field. Lansdown is usually a centre, and Cook Savage a 1st 5.

In team Clarke, I assume Lucas Cashmore is Adrian's son. Ned Pene is the son of Arran Pene.

    Chiefs U18s 14 - Blues U18s 12 (HT: 14-5)

A game of two halves as the Chiefs dominated the 1st half scoring 2 early tries as they regularly found gaps in the midfield and out wide. Handling errors or poor final passes let them down. The Blues scored late in the half after a sustained period on the Chiefs' goal-line.

In the 2nd half the Blues spent almost the entire time in the Chiefs 22. The Chiefs scramble defence was really good and kept the Blues out until the final minute when the Blues scored in the corner. A side-line conversion closed the gap but that was FT.

Both teams made wholesale subs at HT so it's hard to draw too many conclusions about the relative strengths of each team. An entertaining game though.

    CHIEFS U18 DEVELOPMENT CAMP 2019

Ever wondered what goes on at the representative level of 1st XV Rugby? We went along to the Gallagher Chiefs camp this year to see what the young men from schools around the region got up to.

If you're after game highlights of the match between the Chiefs U18s and The Blues U18s, you can find them at 4:19.

We spoke to Kent Curry, Player Development Officer, about why these camps are important. We then caught up Chiefs legends Tanerau Latimer & Jarred Hoeata and what they've been teaching the boys. We got some player perspective from New Plymouth's Blair Murray & Hamilton's Mason Tupaea. And finally, the Strength & Conditioning coach Wally Rifle.

For many of these athletes, it was their first taste of a professional environment. A big thank you to the Chiefs for allowing us in to camp!
