Holy shit, indeed. I can't upvote that.

Oh, man, that “Giant Sucking Sound.” Three days late, but I just heard Ross Perot died.

    "a cat with boxing gloves"

That's certainly some tribute from George Foreman.

    RIP.

@Bovidae Copy editors really should still exist:

'Sweet Pea was Whitaker's nickname, and it fit perfectly. He was a master of getting hit and not getting hit back,' 😕

@antipodean Yeah, I read that twice in the article and it still didn't make sense. Wait for the online edit. 🙂

Wow, that is a shock. Was a huge follower of boxing in the 1980s and 90s. Was one of the best fighters I've ever seen (never in real life and he's one of the few I would have given a left nut to see in real life, the other being Sugar Ray leonard).

The fact he was only a few years older than me always helps you to relate in many ways.

Followed him through the olympics and then watched most of his pro fights when they were on pay-per-view or televised on free-to-air back in the day.

One of my Brothers and I were such big fans of Boxing during the heyday that was the 80s and 90s, that we subscribed to two different boxing magazines. "Sweet Pea" was a one of the megastars of te sport at the time and his career was well covered.

    Shocked and shaken by this.

@RoninWC I liked to watch a bit of boxing when I was younger. More the Olympic and light/welter weight stuff. Heavyweight boxing just seemed more like WWF to me.

The fight that I most remember of Whitaker was when he lost against De la Hoya in the mid 90s.

Hmmmmm, trying to decide if I'm triggered by this post or not and @raznomore would probably put it far more eloquently than I could but some of the all time great boxers that I've followed have been heavyweights. Jeffries, Dempsey, Marciano, Louis, Liston, Ali, Foreman, Norton, Tyson, Lewis, Holyfield, Klitchko. I'm even developing quite the admiration for Fury. I do get that they throw far less than the lighter divisions but they're more potent in what they do if that makes sense ?

In saying that highlights of Robinson, Duran, Hagler, De la Hoya, Mayweather, Pacquiao etc are sensational as well.

Showing my age but I remember him as Commander Crane on Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. We thought the Seaview was about the coolest thing on TV.

Hadn’t twigged he was also Felix.

    Rutger Hauer 😞

The Hitcher was a bloody scary movie. Dude was a great villain. Big points for Blind Fury too!

Wouldn’t have shed a tear for Gary Busey or indeed his twin brother Nick Nolte but Rutger was pretty cool in quite a few roles.

My all time favourite would be ‘Hobo with a shotgun’ which is as Z grade as it sounds.

I remember seeing that in the theatre when it was released - loved it. I'm sure a few people didn't eat fries/chips after that movie.

There were some people sitting in front of us who were so scared they ended up walking out. 🤣

Other older movies of his I enjoyed were Ladyhawke and Flesh & Blood.

Edit: Forgot about Escape from Sobibor. Fantastic movie.
