@Hooroo Yes, it was indeed a good game. I'm particularly happy with another good 10 developing in the Bay (Latrell Smiler-Ah Kiong). He can also play halfback and is, apparently, also good in basketball. Only 17 years old, and IIRC this is his second year in Hastings Boys' 1st XV squad. Hopefully, he doesn't get poached by another province.

In that Hastings Boys squad is also Cooper Flanders, a younger brother of Devan Flanders, and also a number 8. I think he's still in Year 11.

Add some promising midfielders in Jayden Stok (played on the wing last year), Jack Sheridan (both Napier) and Jordan Thompson-Dunn (Hastings); a good Napier frontrow and Hastings backrow.

Hamilton BHS and Hastings BHS played in the top of the table Super 8 clash today. Final score was 26-3 (HT: 12-3) to Hamilton. It was a game where the team playing into the strong wind had the better of each half. Both teams defended very well but Hamilton had an advantage in the forwards. The Hastings centre was sent off with about 10 mins to go for a nasty tip tackle where the ref had little choice.

They will meet again in the Super 8 final next Saturday.

Wow, that was a hiding really. Hopefully Hastings can reverse it in the final.

It was a strange game and the teams are closer than this scoreline. Hastings looked more dangerous in the backs while Hamilton dominated the scrum and were effective with pick and goes.

Hamilton had their backup 1st 5 playing, only year 11 I'm told, but very impressive.

@Bovidae I think Hastings were also missing several players. Cooper Flanders (no. 8 and brother of Devan) is also year 11. I think more of them are.

How did Hastings nos. 10 and 12 go?

The 2nd 5 stood out more from memory. The most dangerous player was the Fijian winger - very elusive. Naholo mkII.

Final score in the UC Championship
Nelson College 35 Christchurch Boys High 31 ..
    Halftime 12-11 Christchurch..
Remember this name Anton Segner, Captain and openside flanker
This young guy is a beast..has a massive engine and a workrate to boost.. brilliant over the ball.
Was also impressed with the fullback for Nelson Daniel Rogers..looks super quick..
What are they feeding these kids in the Ta$man area..?

The dignity Segner has just shown in his after match speech is truly something special to see..he comforted the Christchurch Boys High Skipper who broke down during his after match speech..fantastic humility
