Movie review thread...

I watched One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest last night for the first time in probably 25 years. Holds up great. Still awesome.

San Andreas, big disaster film with the Rock.
Cliche after cliche (estranged ex wife and daughter he sets out to rescue)
But if you like seeing big buildings crumbling into each other and shit then you would like it.
Clearly 98% of the budget was spent on cgi and the rock but I didn't mind it.

Using the Mariner scale 2 titties out of 10, the daughter has a nice set and you see her for like 30 seconds in a bikini and a low cut tank top a few times -

Saw Pixels on the weekend - must be great being Adam Sandler. What should we make a movie about? I know, lets make a movie about all the old video games we played as kids! Great idea!

Was a decent watch, liked Peter Dinklage's character!
-

I watched Avengers. Age of Ultron a couple of days ago. Thought it was OK but something of film looking for a storyline. Just a bit disjointed really.

Lots of studio interference, has made Wheddon call time on his future directing in the Marvel universe.

They insisted on that weird Thor in a cave scene that mad absolutely no sense.
-

Add me to the list that didn't mind Pixels. The kids loved it, i laughed a couple of times, not a bad way to spend a Sunday arvo.

That Michelle Monaghan is pretty hot
-

I see Marvel are looking at remaking Blade. I loved that movie as a kid, Wesley Snipes was bad ass.

Krakauaer is not happy about Everest http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/film/72532387/journalist-jon-krakauer-furious-at-his-depiction-in-everest

Although it is pretty much what he wrote apart from giving the russian guy more credit for what he did which Krakauaer himself said he was due anyway.
-
Silly headline. What Krakauer is saying is simply not to think you know the story just by watching the movie and is promoting his book at the same time. The movie had to leave a lot out so that it didn't confuse viewers and focus on the main characters. They leave out completely the amazing attempt at rescue by Ang Dorje and other Sherpas which is a pity.
Interesting aside, Ang Dorje now lives in the US as a wind turbine engineer but returns each year to the Himalaya as a guide during climbing season. -
To be fair I haven't seen the movie yet but was going by the interview with Jan Arnold when she said that playing down their part was unfortunate but she understood the film makers reasons.
IIRC Ang Dorjee gets within 250m of Hall during the night and had to turn back. It's still something he won't talk about. Mrs. C spent a bit of time with him on the way to EBC last year and says 1996 was a subject you just avoided. -
The movie shows him and two other guys trying to bash their way through the storm as they try to climb to Hall while the others at base camp follow their progress on the radio . It's quite a powerful scene because you know once they fail Halls only hope is to climb down himself .

I remember that scene, but I guess the issue was that it wasn't specific enough in highlighting it was the Sherpas and that they had been tirelessly trying to reach him. I think a couple of different cuts to the footage might have highlighted it better.

I think the one scene that Krakauer has an issue with (likely legitimately) - the one where he's asked to help and says he wont - might cloud his judgement of the movie. I've been flicking through his book a bit in the last few days, and although it's not credited as one of the movie sources the filmakers clearly referred to it when they made the movie.
-

Well it looked like what they were trying to do was incredibly hard given the conditions and having to turn back must have been an incredibly tough call. In the book Krakauaer said he was too spent to help so I don't think there's an issue there other than he didn't really have a good take on what the badass Russian did and he since admitted he regrets that . Didn't he say in the article he hasn't even seen the movie?

To summarise this appeared in stuff the same day they referred to Brendon Pongia as a former all black . -

Saw the movie, don't remember much. Never read the comic. But this past year I read the entire Marv Wolfman/Gene Colan "Tomb of Dracula" series published by Marvel in the early 1970s, where Blade was born and quite a few issues ran with him. Made me curious if they'd do an "origin-pic" that included Dracula, but then maybe they already did? As I said, I don't remember the movies very well at all.
-

You just need to let go of the hate in your heart, and put on your best mix tape. -
Saw the final Hobbit film. Liked this one best by far even if the dude playing Thoran made Eric Roberts proud with his overacting.

Entourage. Quite liked the show, but the film was pretty crap. Apart from one rather impressive sex scene that is. Fark Hayley Joel Osmend is a fat fooker these days. Still a good actor though.
