@gt12 about a dozen posts above your one....;)

sadly I think there are plenty of very irresponsible dog (Pet) owners out there, while in the minority of most owners, thier actions always influence responsible owners.

Go walking in parts of the parks where you are allowed dogs while on a lead, and plenty just let thiers run free - dont worry, he/she is friendly.

Some people feel a pet is thier right to own, not a privilege to have one.

My old neighbours were so typical in that respect; 2 dogs, one pregnant half the time, cats, which one of thier dogs would kill, dso they get a new cat. They go away for 5 days, leave thier dog roaming the property, no one comes to feed it, barks all night...it escapes, intimidates pedestrians, gets picked up by pound, they choose not to pay to get it back...get a new dog.

@Billy-Webb Reminded of this thread so I'm going to bump it.

Dog parenting after 10 months or so - how did I do?

She has me wrapped around her finger.
Yes, she will listen and do what I tell her (if I am serious) but game on if she wants to play and I mostly just laugh at her when she is naughty. She even has a special run / trot when she has stolen something (toast, shoe, bag of chips are favourites). Then go past dad knowing that he has no chance of catching you to take the piss. I have no idea where she learnt that last bit from.

    As for this

@jegga said in Dogs and bitches:

    https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12168562

That is her, almost identical in looks (not the pooping bit but the naughty, sense of humour / behavioural disorder, probably from me - again not the pooing on pillows, haven't done that in ages).

I'm not sure who teases who more. I get a tennis ball dropped at my feet the whole time and when I try to pick it up she trots off with it (all game laws are hers - she is the Wayne Barnes of dogs). I will then go and get the soccer ball, which she can't pick up. She turns into angry Scooby doo, hilarious, barking, yelping, shear frustration. She may also have picked up my dislike of soccer.

    I am smitten.

My youngest is nagging me day in, day out to get him a puppy. He's trying every manipulative trick he can think of. The missus would have given in by now if i didn't threaten to divorce her

What sort of mutt have you got ? Some are more strong willed than others

Yes a mutt. Cavalier spaniel / poodle. Some fancy name for them, but a mongrel.

Wife chose it because she is a teddy bear (bitch, not wife - although wife has her moments).

We just got exactly the same.

Got at 10 weeks, not too bad so far.

Wife treats it like a baby, I treat it like a dog.

i just read you got a fucking cavoodle!! fuck, you are a woman!

My mate just bought one for his daughter, and my sister-in-lay for my niece. Little floppy balls of fluff that will be good for fuck all down the track.

Yep. They are a dog, ours sleeps shut in kennel, albeit in the house with us.

The breed are pretty smart critters. I was actually pretty strict on our girl when she was young. Apparently the imprinting happens early, so first year is important to establish the alphas. You'll probably end up with the constant companion like I have.

Wrong. Wive wanted and bought dog for starters, but what use is a dog anyway?

The little bitch is already in trouble for chasing the neighbours sheep. Who'd get married ay?

@mariner4life we gave in. My daughter has always wanted a dog but my wife is very much a cat person. One day I said fuck it. That was a year ago and our Kelpie x Border Collie has been ruining our lives ever since.

Laughed at that. How many "pairs" of shoes do you have left? Toast is a major issue around our place too.

Was actually our first choice breed, they will chase stock unless seriously controlled. We have too much around and grumpy farmers that shoot things.

    They are manic.

Have a mate south of Sydney and his one has been given the duty of keeping the foxes away from the chooks. Now even my mate can't go near the chickens, they are the dogs flock. Bloody funny when dog puts them all to bed at night too. Don't mess with a Kelpie.

Yeah, I'm very strict. But I notice now she follows me around the kitchen and just sits and stares at me. Will also drop when requested sit/paw for treats.

Still has the odd excitement piss, but outside that does all her business outside. We have her in the "crate" (posh word for cage) at night. She howled like mental first night, since then nothing.

If I'm honest, I loved the first week, didn't enjoy the next 2 (what have we done!!!) and since then she's just started that getting under my skin phase. I think it'll improve even more when kids go back to school and routine is back in their lives.

Good sign. She has an alpha.

The cage that our girl sleeps in was sold as a "cottage". Same thing, awful first night. Now puts herself to bed.

Excitement pissing goes away as bitches get older (yes). I have one staff member that that has always done the "excited to see you" thing and the last one was about when she was 8 months old (dog, not staff)).

Your last paragraph says it. I was seriously pissed off with the wife for her forcing me to get a puppy. It gets better - hence my bumping the thread.
