Yeah he was alright. I googled,to answer my own question, and found this guy (who should probably go in the "awesome internet stuff" too:

Another Yorkshire native and another left-arm spinner, Hedley Verity was crucial for England in the period before the Second World War.

Regarded as the natural successor to fellow Yorkshireman Wilfred Rhodes, Verity regularly took wickets and often made match-winning contributions.

His career was cut short by the onset of the Second World War, and Verity died of wounds as a Prisoner of War in Italy.*

Just thought that was QI.

Otherwise, yes, Swann and Underwood before him.

@sparky brilliant article. Such really bad numbers accumulating there for England in test cricket, being dismissed for less than 100 three times in the last ten would be a big concern for the batting coach.

Root has carried them for a while and the cracks (that are most of the rest of the team) are showing.
