I reckon Swann was probably their last very good spinner.
Yeah he was alright. I googled,to answer my own question, and found this guy (who should probably go in the "awesome internet stuff" too:
*7: Hedley Verity
40 Tests; 144 wickets; 24.37 average; 1.88 economy rateAnother Yorkshire native and another left-arm spinner, Hedley Verity was crucial for England in the period before the Second World War.
Regarded as the natural successor to fellow Yorkshireman Wilfred Rhodes, Verity regularly took wickets and often made match-winning contributions.
His career was cut short by the onset of the Second World War, and Verity died of wounds as a Prisoner of War in Italy.*
Just thought that was QI.
Otherwise, yes, Swann and Underwood before him.

Apparently it's Fancy Dress day at Headingly today.
Some clowns thought it would fun to dress up as England's batsmen.

How the fuck did Cummins not get Denly that over?
Credit to Denly, he hung on there a bit and is currently his side's top scorer on 12.

Me neither. Amazing what you find aye? Meantime England really need someone to stand up. Would actually be good if they were all out now, then NZ won't hold the record for lowest score at Headingley.

England all out for 67 inside 28 overs. 4th time out for less than 100 in last two years.
Relentless bowling from Australia, especially Hazelwood.
Captain Root's wicket was HUGE. Out second ball in his backyard. England mentally shot after that.

Australia lead by 112 runs.

I have a sneaky feeling here ... that England will still get a first innings lead.
How do you think the English Rugby team will go in Japan - champions?

Funnily enough .... yes.

Australia 171-6 at the close of play. 283 ahead. Looks like by this time tomorrow the Australian players will be partying with the Urn.
-
Two ordinary batting lineups against a couple of good attacks. With predictable results.

being dismissed for less than 100 three times in the last ten would be a big concern for the batting coach.
Wow, that is really shocking.
Root has carried them for a while and the cracks (that are most of the rest of the team) are showing.

Good article apart from this:
"we’re world champions".
